It would be better to not even start a match day thread. I know you would need to be mystic Meg to predict this, but especially when City lose.
My solution. At the full time whistle, if we lose, lock the thread.

Could start a 'Pointless bickering about playing out from the back' thread. We'd all know to just ignore it then. :emoticon-0100-smile

I'm going to make just one contribution to this. The discussion seems to me to be:

    1. Playing out from the back to draw on the opposition poses risks that we shouldn't accept, as it sometimes leads to the opponent's scoring. It's a fair point, i don't agree with it but it's fair.

    2. Instead we should do things that pose fewer risks of the opponents scoring. It's not a fair point because it is an impossible dream. Football isn't a science that is dictated by mechanical motions, it is a mish-mash of numerous simultaneous random events. The notion that an approach can be found that minimises or eliminates risk is for the birds - all football of all types poses massive risks, all of the time. That's the nature of it.

99 times out of 100 Seri doesn't cough it up to Wallace and WBA don't score an easy tap-in. But similarly a different approach that progresses up the field quicker has those same 1 in a 100 risks associated with them, indeed they may be 2 or 3 in a 100 risks. So focussing on one thing and saying that doing something different will mitigate or make the risks go away is rubbish - it will simply lead to some different risks.

I realise I'm stating the obvious here - but I've seen the point missed on this thread about 200 times in the last 24 hours.

    You cant minimise risks?

Not passing to players that are closely marked or surrounded by opponents minimises the risk when the ball is near the edge of our penalty area.

Passing forward gets the ball further from the goal and results in more players behind the ball in case we lose possession minimises risk.

Passing forward quickly before the opponents are able to get into their preferred formation improves our opportunity of creating chances.

How many times do opponents score goals because our full backs are up the field and they can break quickly? We score more goals when we do the same.

    Classic "Butterfly Effect"/"Chaos Theory" ...

Moreover, as Lorenz stated in his 1972 paper, “If the flap of a butterfly's wings can be instrumental in generating a tornado, it can equally well be instrumental in preventing a tornado.” And that would be impossible for us to know.Feb 22, 2011

That is OLM’s advice to people , if you don’t like a thread reading it is not compulsory.Seems a few including himself should follow that advice.

Never seen that. Is it as well known as his famous The Scream?

Always liked Turner’s Rain, Steam and Speed though.

Are you forced to read it?
My solution is if people want to go backwards and forwards discussing City leave them to it.
Message boards tend to be 80% waffle whatever the subject matter.

It's our matchday thread, not some random thread on Rugby Union or Holidays, nobody on this board wants to have to avoid our own matchday threads.
