There are other words for it though, which was the joke. Maybe I'm.. inexperienced.. in making jokes. Or I'm a bit of a novice. Or foolhardy. Or..
League games only. Thanks to tigerbase.hullcity.com Arveladze 1st season P19 PPG 1.16 GF 0.95 GA 1.21 2nd season P10 PPG 1.10 GF 1.10 GA 2.10 Total P29 PPG 1.14 GF 1.00 GA 1.52 Rosenior 1st season P28 PPG 1.36 GF 1.07 GA 0.93 2nd season P15 PPG 1.53 GF 1.40 GA 1.27 Total P43 PPG 1.42 GF 1.19 GA 1.05 So, the stats confirm definite progress. Of course there should be, given a) Shota's epoch was unfortunately a bit of a disaster, and ended with a bit of a capitulation (last 4 games = 1 goal scored, 11 against, nil points which suggests he'd lost it)., and b) Rosenior has been well supported during his 2 windows. Irrespective, the stats show the progress. Maybe a tad alarming is that, although our GF stats have at least improved a little this season, our GA stats have worsened by a similar-ish proportion and are now worse than during Shota's 1st season. So, Rosenior had tightened things up, but this season we've gone backwards in that respect, with GF not improving significantly enough to offset it. Sorry, I don't have the Xg analysis (coz I don't know wtf it actually is and equally couldn't care less as it's all about GF, GA and points.....and #process).
I like to see them as it adds to the drama of the game, but I'm way more interested in goals and points. Analysing shots on target can also be pretty meaningless. I could take a shot on target from the edge of the box for example and it would trickle into the keepers hands these days, but would still count as a shot on target. Bit like being obsessed with possession statz, which can often simply show how often a team has passed it around the back and to / from the keeper.
It's almost like if you could rate the quality of the shot on target, it would be more meaningful in some way?
Yeah, if only eh. I'll let others over analyze stuff that in practice means next to nothing whilst I'll stick with Cloughie's take on the game (what did he know). Btw, you did see that final sentence didn't you .... "Sorry, I don't have the Xg analysis (coz I don't know wtf it actually is and equally couldn't care less as it's all about GF, GA and points.....and #process)".
Is there a correlation between those who don’t like Rosey and those who don’t like Southgate? I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a significant crossover.
If only... And yes I saw your sentence where you acknowledged you have no clue how data analytics worked. That's why I asked you about shots on target, which you danced around answering straight. All good, you could have just stuck with saying you have no idea what something means.
Not sure I agree that this team's better than the 07/08 version. That team certainly had a stronger defence with two experienced fullbacks and in Michael Turner probably one of our best ever cbs. Once Campbell arrived we had two strikers who knew where the back of the net was and, probably the most salient difference, we had old heads right through the team; Windass, Barmby, Brown, Ashbee, Dawson etc who were encouraged to call people out if they weren't doing their job. IMHO Liam desperately needs some of that nous both on and off the field - as you say, he probably needs a good Nobby.
For one brief moment I thought you were wanting to engage in sensible discussion. I should have known better. Please just give it a rest now eh.
The game has moved on vast amounts since 07/08, pointless comparing on ability these days because of the level of coaching in the modern game. Character wise and how some of them played though, we are missing immensely in the current squad
It's a pity Coyle is not a midfielder, he has the Ashbyesque enforcer attitude, which I feel we lack in midfield.
Coyle is the closest thing we have to any type of hardman in the squad. We have the lowest tackles attempted and one of the lowest tackle success rates in the Championship. Go figure. We have a lot of players who are comfortable in possession. No physicality or aggression outside the back line. And before anyone says 'but but Rosenior doesn't need tacklers in midfield because he's playing with technical players who are good on the ball and we're a possession team anyway'. Well, then Rosenior's wrong I'm afriad. Nearly every successful possession-based team has physicality in the spine. Man City, Arsenal, Spurs under Postecoglou, Ipswich have Morsy and Luongo as their holding mids and they're 2nd in the league. Our midfielders may be better 'technically' as individuals than Ipswich's midfielders but they piss all over ours as a collective. We struggled scoring goals last season under Rosenior. We still struggle to score but now we also look worse defensively this season.
I didn't say anywhere that "I don't understand or care how stats work"!! Why on earth do you continually mis-interpret and twist what posters actually write; not just me but others too? Do you just like a good argument? Out of 'interest', if you knew my background, which I can understand you wouldn't, you'd find that actually pretty much the opposite is true. What I actually said was simply "Sorry, I don't have the Xg analysis (coz I don't know wtf it actually is and equally couldn't care less as it's all about GF, GA and points.....and #process)". All that is saying is that I don't understand Xg and I aren't really that interested (as it means next to **** all in practice). I bet most people don't really understand what Xg is without looking it up, other than a superficial awareness that it's something to do with quality of chances. Once again, PLEASE just give it up Syd. 'It' being mis-interpreting posts and being so argumentative. It's real boring now.
