As things stand now, I'd send Hemir on loan to a L1 side, send Burstow back and try to sign competition for Rusyn. A lot can change between now and January of course
I'm looking forward to seeing Mayenda, I agree with sending Hemir on loan as I think he only got game time because of the delay settling Rusyn in and the injury to Mayenda
None of us had ever heard of him and he cost less than a decent detached house ... ... hardly an established striker tbh, there wasn't much competition to sign him. He could've come here, failed and gone to Hartlepool ... ... no one would've cared.
Absolutely, this is a forum for discussion on these things. There’s a fundamental difference of opinion on how we should recruit strikers so it does make good discussion difficult. A significant chunk of our budget should go on goal scorers. Getting top end championship strikers will cost - big fees and big wages. We don’t seem prepared to do this as it’s probably a quick way to failure if the signing doesn’t live up to the hype. If it doesn’t work out, you’re stuck with a highly paid player that other clubs don’t want to buy or want us to contribute to their wages to take off our hands. Grigg is a good example. From years gone by, Flo, Laslandes, Borini. We’d rather go for up and coming strikers - through our youth or from other clubs. Less outlay, less wages and less risk. If they come good then we’ll give them an improved contract and their transfer value will probably have increased by at least 500%. Examples are Phillips, Ross Stewart, Russell, Elliott, Gabbiadini. I think there’s still room for signing proven goal scorers like Defoe, Marcus Stewart, Gates (edit - and Quinn) if the opportunity comes up. Similar to what we did with Batth, Evans and Pritchard. It’s a long term project for KLD and it’s still early days really. Going for the type of strikers we are, it’s not an immediate fix so I get that it’s frustrating.
Not for a reasonable fee and wages. We, or another club, would have already done so if that was the case. Missing out on Broadhead was unlucky but **** happens.
Leicester's top scorer, Dewsbury-Hall, has five goals ... Clarke has nine. Jordan Rhodes has nine, one of the top scorers in L1, and I wouldn't have him at the club. So who is this mystery man we're supposed to sign, seriously.
I think we are looking round for an experienced striker of a decent age, I think Speakman said we are and are open to it but they couldn't find anyone who was worth the outlay. And that's not just looking in domestic markets we've got scouts all over. Incidentally I don't have any problem with people criticising the team, I'm generally positive but I'm not an idiot and can see when there are issues. When it's something I don't agree with and it's being mentioned every game I'll take exception but it's usually a good place to debate almost anything.
Might be too early, still settling into the country and learning the language. He’ll just be settling and building a new life around himself. Also TMs latest comment was he needs to no longer be the last out on the grass. Not sure game time is the priority for his development just now.
"Nunez scored goals last season but struggled somewhat with a language barrier with his teammates and with Klopp. In a recent press conference, Klopp discussed the difficulty that Nunez faced with language in his first year but the German is enthused by the progress the striker has made in learning English. “The first year was hard for him, and hard for me as well because you see this incredible talent, with massive potential, but it’s difficult to unfold it, because I’m a manager who needs contact to help a player."
Yeah it's a recent trend in football I think where a teams main goalscorer is not the striker, Burnley had Ashley Barnes up front last season and he didn't score many, Akpom didn't play upfront for Boro and he was top scorer in the league. If you look at the stats our issue is a tactical issue not a player issue, Stewart or any striker people name would not be scoring goals in this team, Rusyn had one shot yesterday and it's not like he wasn't making runs, Hemir had little to go off, Burstow has had little to go off. Until we play to our strikers strengths it really does not matter who we play up front so talking about potential forward signings or complaining about the lack of a 'proven forward' is utterly pointless as they would not be scoring either.
Yates is literally the only one I can think of that was affordable but I’m not sold on him, we could have potentially signed a better option than Burstow on loan but loans are always a gamble you don’t get many Amad level loans
Our weakness atm is the poor tally from our no's 10 and 11, last season we had Amad who made up the shortfall, maybe Adil is the answer who knows its a work in progress and is as interesting as it is frustrating. OaU
Wasn't there a shout out that Broadhead couldnt keep himself fit and a lot didn't want him for that reason. Stewart was exceptional but again fitness was his Achilles heal, professionals playing football tend to get injured now and again, just some more so than others. is Mayenda ? made of glass, we haven't been able to find out yet.
I have to agree with this and if it was up to me I’d be harsh and drop Jobe. As good as he looks at times we need a bit more quality in the 10 role and a permanent fixture up top so they can start communicating and understanding how each other play. We’ve gone from having a technically great player who didn’t quite contribute the numbers you’d want in Pritchard to Amad who had everything and put numbers on the board to Jobe who doesn’t really give us either at the minute. 2 goals between your choice of 9s and 10 after 15 games is poor. We have the options it’s up to TM to figure it out.
those 5 words sum it up for me, people were kicking their heels because luton got promoted, played horrible football, ground was nowhere near ready etc etc well good luck to them, i say, because they earned it and one day we will earn it. the old 'dont run until you can walk' (or whatever it is) is what we all need to think about now, the club was rock bottom and KLD has changed that massively in a pretty short space of time, the next level is important and going into it fully prepared is vital...when we do get there i would be happy with 5th off bottom for our first season and keep growing from there.
For people who like stats to say that the strikers we have aren't good enough https://www.si.com/soccer/sunderlan...Ni7y9QL-QyNsfckz5PsUw0ceHkXnDTGrdY9nup2IqNYYw
