MITO just argued for the sake of it but I knew he'd mention Alonso as soon as I saw Mascherano's name. Mascherano is on MITO's hate list

you lot have no ****ing clue.

trying to redefine one of the best 6s of the century (alonso) and ignoring all the defensive work he did in a double 6 formation that allowed Gerrard just look forward. oh no he's a player maker not a 6.

    utter rot LOL

real chased him as the only player in Europe that could do the role.

bayern chased him to do exactly the same.

Given they played together clewrly they didn’t play the same role. Maybe just mis remembering mascherano career, the guy was a pure DM and was world class. Alonso was also world class just in totally different way. They’re allowed to have diff strengths and weaknesses.

it's like nobody recalls rafa parked one at right side (mascherano) and one at left side (alonso) as a double 6 system to allow full back like risse bomb on and anger to run forward as well.

the twin 6 was fundamental to his 4231 as it enabled Gerrard be the 10 and no look backwards. Gerrard even admitted this himself.

    Alonso was 14.
mascherano was 20 so no real idea what you’re on about as neither wore number 6.

rafa benefiz admitted that he sold alonso to get money to buy two players as he has lucas leiva (another lad just as good as mascherano btw) and wanted to drop Gerrard back (where Rodgers put him)

pretty clearly if you are talking best 6 of the century but putting mascherano above alosno or a number of others you've.been on the whacky bakky :)

In your world where players only play based on a shirt number what number would you put mascherano as out of interest?

Ironically, at Real Madrid, he was a "no.6" (CB) <whistle>

    sigh.

clearly just trying to argue the inarguable.

6 is a very clear modern position descriptor just like 8 or whatever you like.

it wasn't me who brought up shirt numbers, it was z who was also just arguing for the sake of arguing.

6 controls the centre circle. it's basically that simple.

No I’m interested to know what number you’d class him as.

As no one was talking about alonso or comparing him and mascherano, you suddenly through that into mix.

The point was that short ass players can make rest defensive midfielders. Mascherano, Kante and makelele were all named as some of them. You can’t argue that those 3 were more defensive and won tackles and their height didn’t disadvantage their ability to tackle.
