Often need to look beyond the first line stick. But, pedigrees can be very misleading unless one is fully aware of the conformation and temperaments etc of those all down the line. Many look good on paper but bad breed planning can double up on faults. Whereas careful line breeding with the occasional selective outcast will preserve the good features and can iron out (or at least lessen) the effect of any minor defect. I understand the basic principals but it's a very complicated art; too complicated for me. Needles to say I know sfa about anything thoroughbred
Yes indeed, great tipping Oddy. Unlucky with Monbeg Genius. Stupid commentator said a very bad error 5 out but he was all but knocked over
Lovely win by Inspiral. Warm Heart trapped on the inside but didn't have the pace to get passed anyhow. This was a case of it being possibly 2f too short for Warm Heart and possibly 2f too far for Inspiral. Well, there is the answer Ignore the blue words, I was watching the wrong horse with no sound. Great race between two fillies I love. Thankfully STH alerted me
Not sure you were watching the right race Ron. Warm Heart got a lovely trip, went clear after the turn in and led until the final stride when the winner caught her.
Ah thanks. What a race. I was watching with no sound as I have company and was thinking Warm Heart was the all blue. I love those two fillies and it would have been so much more enjoyable had I turned up the sound
We've all been guilty of it Ron, I figured you may have had an eye on the wrong horse or colour etc. Inspiral got Frankie out of trouble in it I felt. She started poorly and was forced wide to make her winning run, she was comfortably the best horse In it and would have been a seriously unfortunate loser.
She's also proved she is not just a miler. She might even be able to do the 12 on a track like that. It will be interesting to see if she stays in training
Super run by White Abarrio, Cool ride by jockey, and trainer must take a lot of credit for giving the horse a long break so that he was fresh for the Classic. Ushba Tesoro probably had traffic problems but finished strongly from a long way back, possibly around 6th at the finish. Have to watch it again.
The Charlie Hall was a pleasure to watch with two wonderful looking horses fighting out the finish. Really impressed by Bravemansgame, he really is a fine stamp of a chaser. Felt Cobden decided to fiddle the last three and came unstuck at the last. In that going it was understandable that he was taking care of his horse but he won't do that again.
After my one bet on Friday’s Breeders’ Cup card had been given no chance by James Doyle, I gave Saturday a miss, especially the most mediocre Classic field that I can recall seeing. I wonder if Inspiral bypassed the Breeders’ Cup Mile because the Japanese horse runs a similar race to her or just to avoid the boys. Obviously having started his career in California, John Gosden knew that ten furlongs on turf at Santa Anita is really like nine furlongs in Britain so it was within her compass. Frankie saved ground on the inside most of the way round and was just able to mow down Warm Heart in the shadow of the post. I cannot say that I fancied either of the Godolphin runners in the Mile so to have it be on the nod between them was a surprise. Fortunately the short straight at Santa Anita was not too short for William Buick on Master Of The Seas but it was too short for the Japanese favourite Songline. Using the same logic, Mostahdaf was in the mile and a half Turf despite not really being a twelve furlong horse. That never panned out for him as he was wide on the turn for home while Ryan gambled on hugging the rail on Auguste Rodin and got the split to win. Can anyone remember a mare as big as Distaff winner Idiomatic? When she goes to the breeding shed, the stallion will have to stand on a box. The ITV pundits talking this up like it was some vintage renewal was laughable: most of the dirt races did not attract a maximum field despite millions of dollars of prize money and the American turf horses are rarely good enough to beat good European ones.
I think the general consensus in the media that Bravemansgame should have won does a little bit of disservice to the winner. That was only Gentlemansgame's 3rd start over fences and whilst I'll admit he was getting 6lbs, I thought he was responding well to pressure and staying on nicely. It will be very interesting to see how he fares against Ireland's best at Christmas.
Owner seemed very keen in post race interview re Gerry Colombe and the Gold Cup in March. Maybe both horses under the Robcour ownership could end up in the GC in March. Felt Cobden went for a bit of a "safe" jump on the Nicholls runner at the last and paid the price for it. Good race overall though.
I hope he does well and puts them in their place. Similarly a great stamp of a chaser just not as attractively athletic as Bravemansgame.
I thought they might have aimed GC at the Hennessy (or whatever it’s called these days) but not entered.
