Just a point I think someone said we hadn’t won there in 25 years ? Totally wrong seen us win twice and lose to Paul Hartson once

It looks like there's no evidence to suggest you know what it means

15 years is nearly a quarter of a century!?
I was there in 2008 when we won three nil
we didnt concede silly goals by making risky passes
that enabled us to go third in the Premier League

I read the match thread hoping for some good discussion about what went right/wrong. It generally starts well, but then ends up with the usual bickering. If it gets to a point where you find you’re calling someone a name or getting rather angry, maybe it’s time to stop that ‘discussion’? Or take it to private messaging?

Some good points are lost and I suspect there are posters who would like to add something, but can’t be bothered to get involved in the drama.

So my attempt to get it back on track:

    - We messed up by not playing proper wingers (though hindsight is a wonderful thing)

    - The possession system didn’t work today (but has worked in other games e.g. Stoke). Time will tell on this and we will know at the end of the season if it has been worthwhile.

    - We need Philogene more than we realised. Can we all cross our fingers for Huddersfield? Thanks.

Yeah,, thats the last one. So it's 15 years. Point stands.

What's the expectation we turn up and win, all of a sudden?

I havent got the statistics but I have seen every match except Norwich this season
we dont seem to create many chances
and of the chances we do create the conversion percentage is low

we would have a better chance of winning if we reduce the risky passes at the back
and get forward quicker to create more chances

so you now agree that the pass to Seri carried much more of a risk than playing the ball to the sides or further forward?

We've created a higher xG than our opponents in 7/15 games. Not as high a number as I'd like, but it suggests that it's far more even in games than people think.

This is where I think there’s a problem. I believe we have some of the best attacking players in the division and if it weren’t for the individual magic of Philogene, Delap and Connolly etc, our points total could be worrying. We need to be getting the ball to our attacking players more often and create more chances. This obviously means more goals conceded, but in my opinion, a risk worth taking if we want playoffs. We have missed lots of big chances too, but the more practice you have, the better, right?

On saying that, if Rosenior gets us in playoffs with this system, then fair play to the man and I will hold my hands up. <cheers>

Point #1 isn’t hindsight, you can see it being discussed pre-match.

LR’s complete rigidity with ‘the system’ no matter what is becoming worse than McCann.

We are not the best team in the world, we quite simply have to be flexible at times, even just changing it up during games where it’s not working, but we are not at all. It’s my way or the highway regardless of which players are or aren’t available, who we’re playing or how the games playing out.

Difference for us is that if Delap gets the ball outside the box how often are there runners in and behind ? we tend to pass to static players more than moving players . Would we have had a player running in like they did for their second - I’m not sure

    Left back is a worry
we got rid of a couple of left backs
didnt take the chance to sign one left back
signed another left back we dont want to play
and prefer to play a centre back or right back at left back

Christie is better going forward than defending

it's a good job we have Coyle

It's a fair point you make regarding our reliance on individuals who stand out a good deal more than others. If you take them away we struggle and will in the future? Philogene was a big loss yesterday because without him we have no decent outlet anywhere else wide that can provide the danger and skill that he poseeses,if we lose Delap for a game or 2 we face the same issue in terms of scoring goals,Connolly...Who knows!

The crux of the matter looks to be the lack of skill all over the rest of the pitch,we're hardly blessed with it! Our passing in midfield and defence is questionable against decent opposition,it's all very well owning the possession amongst our defenders when we're not under pressure but when push comes to shove and we go on the attack we seem to lack the nous to get the ball into the opposition's penalty box?

Our current form over the last 6(or 10) games suggests we are a mid-table team and that includes(bar yesterday) us having Philogene and Delap available.

If we get anywhere near the play-offs this season I'll be both shocked and delighted at the same time...
