I think Rusyn is a poacher but he's in a bit of a difficult spot in terms of communication etc, and our players aren't used to having someone like that in the box.

I don't think it'll be long before it all clicks. We've got intelligent players they just need to get used to each other.

cheers for popping in anyway, i was just hoping to see another good football day as i have no dreams about promotion this season. although will accept it if it comes.

i am losing faith with what is happening within the game and VAR is not something i look forward too, officials are getting worse but a lot of it is down to the rules they get told to follow, then they watch the games with VAR and end up with less clue than us.

Losing Stewart will cost us and these owners will be out next summer, not before Mowbray, his signings woeful, they can't battle or score from corners for starters.

Just watched Mowbray's post match interview, its the first time i've actually seen him angry. Look on his face during that interview was etched with frustration and anger at our inability to score against ten men....wasn't too chuffed with the way we conceded the penalty either

Still absolutely baffled by those substitutions. Killed the game for us. What's the point in just hoying on two no 10s ffs.
That was one of Oneins worst ever games for us, absolutely woeful, summed up by him taking that free kick, what the **** was that all about!

Yeah they were silly. No reason to get Rusyn off either. Mowbray reasoning that he was on a yellow, didn't wash with me. We looked silly disjointed and was just a throwing enough mud and hope it sticks style. Which is never good.

Agree with 09 too. Ratings on who scored mean nowt. If ya watched the game he was a massive weak link for us. All set plays he looked lost. Pen given away. Silly ball out to get Ballard in bother. A daft tackle at the end to get a yellow and suspended and well the free kick really took the biscuit. Pulling captain rank there was pathetic. So many better ball strikers who would have had a increased chance at hitting the target.

So you pick one pass to “get Ballard in bother” but ignore multiple very good passes to get us on the front foot? Penalty was utter stupidity yes. (that won’t be the last time you will see that and they won’t all get punished mind).

the free kick you seem to think he just said “I’m captain, I’m taking that”, remind me how many free kicks we’ve scored directly from this season?

Do you nit believe he practiced free kicks in training? Do you think he just thought “I’m having a pot shot here lads, I’ve never tried it”

we’re generally utterly awful at set pieces of any kind. Hun was no worse or better than a lot we’ve taken this season

Just giving examples of serious errors in judgement that both wasted goal scoring opportunities and got us in massive bother which also impacts next week's fixture.

JC and Ekwah looked puzzled when he shot.

TM interview mentioned about having inexperienced striker, yet he took one off for Pritchard who doesn't score.

Bring on Hemir and barely gets a cross in the box.

I bet ya he goes 352 against Brum.

I think he will too. With both first choice centre backs out I think he will have too really. Have to be Seelt in the middle with Hume and Cirkin either side. Only way I can see any sort of shape at all really.

That's the big negative to that system unfortunately. Be interesting to see how we set up. Fact is we havnt seen enough of any other centre back so far this season so it's a pure unknown.

Hi - I don't chip in very often but as an exile these forums are an absolute godsend for all things SAFC and thanks to the wonder of modern tech(!) my sons down in London and I are usually able to catch our games and share our responses to the vicissitudes of fate (i,e. refs) or our coruscating, surgical passing (at times..) and after yesterday's breathless match he messaged me "Wow very entertaining nil nil - we are brilliant to watch"

I'm normally sick with anxiety as ko nears, at times approaching dread (!) but this season I've felt more relaxed - not sanguine but genuinely able to enjoy the games while scrutinising the deveopment/performance of this young side. When the season started I told my two that for me this was a major development year and was looking forward to watching it unfold.Clearly we are a work in progress both in integrating the new recruits and our longterm injured while of our striker options Rusyn for me is the real deal - yesterday we cut the ball just behind him, just in front, underneath and just over him - our cutbacks leave plenty of room for improvemnt but I'll leave that for the impressive 10 Trenches deep.

In the mdium term, given our level of funding I expect evolution rather than revolution - rather like ascending a spiral staircase to the so called sunny uplands of the PL. Of course the possibility exists for one or two jigsaw pieces to drop into place in the nearish term and then reprise Peter Reid's wonderful second promotion campaign but in truth I'm not in a mad hurry to go up this season - VAR anyone? Increasingly bizarre as they dig bigger (and wider) holes - witness the mags"goal" last night. Quite happy to be out of that for the time being - our refs are quixotic if I'm being inordinately kind but at least it's (usually) just the one twa! per game.

Thanks to one and all for the footie contributions particularly the insightful, illuminating ones - mine will normally appear as "likes" as I don't post much, even on the salmon forum - salmon fishing is a bit like us under Parkinson - grim!

Yep. One misplaced attempted attacking pass. And a yellow card. (Unless you’re blaming him fir Ballards yellow which is ridiculous).

Surprised you’re not happy he’s missing next week considering you never pick any of the good things he does and the “examples” you pick are literally all of the negatives

I doubt most people would even have mentioned O'Nein if we had taken some of our glaring chances in front of goal. He wasn't the issue yesterday, Ballard could also have given away a penalty after all and collectively we look ****e when defending corners.

Rusyn has to be given a run in the team, he looks the most likely of our strikers to score.

You should post more often mate.

You seem to share my views, and that of others, who believe we're being well run and well managed.

I've never been so happy to just sit back and see what happens.

It's not always perfect but neither is going the other way and buying a bunch of Championship level players to go up then struggle as Luton are doing. And if you don't go up it's just a rinse and repeat the season after. There are some who say we have no ambition, and don't want to go up and some who say we do and should therefore sack Mowbray. Whatever happens there'll always be something for people to moan about and some obviously like it that way. Last week we fought back from a goal down, scored three goals and didn't sit back at 2-1 to try to hold out ... people weren't happy. It's clear some want the manager out of the club, some even want the club out of the club <laugh>

We bring in young unknowns or rejects from other clubs who, like Clarke and Ballard, who are gradually brought in, coached and allowed to develop without any pressure. But, no matter how many times we do that newcomers are still written off after a handful of games.

The complaints seem to flip-flop between 'give him a run' and 'should be dropped' ...

... those complaining never agree on who the players are to be brought in and binned, or what subs actually should've been made, but they all agree that the manager was at fault.

Of course I'd like a £6m striker, of course I'd like to be top two, etc, but I'm not going to miss out on all the good stuff because I'm concentrating on what system we ought to play, which eleven we should start with or which subs should be brought on. Once we kick off I'm a Sunderland supporter and watch, not analyse. That comes the day after when I've calmed down from a loss, or a draw, or a win <laugh>

Football is imperfect, Leicester hardly had a sniff on Friday and lost a home game, Birmingham threw away a two goal lead late on and Boro lost the lead twice. Swansea missed a penalty at home and got a man sent off needlessly.

Birmingham and Rooney up next, Ha'way the Lads and post more mate!

I can’t get my head round how fans on here expect players around 22 years old should be a finished product. Are they saying they were perfect at their job when they were in their early twenties they didn’t need to learn anything else.
Looking at our defeat with 10 men and not being able to score with an extra man, have they ever thought that young team who haven’t been together half a season yet may never have had enough time to train for those two scenarios yet? Have some bloody patience man.
