I really expected us to win that comfortably, BUT unbeaten in six now 12 points, 4 clean sheets and if we can beat Rotherham next week it will be a good run Had we had this run of form in the previous 6 games we would be in the playoffs
Lies, damned lies, and statistics. This match was biblical, or as Leviticus would call it : an abomination.
They played for a draw apparently due to missing so many players and we obliged very tamely. Disappointing indeed . Apparently a few Pozzo out songs and booing at the end .
it’s not optimism, it’s denial of reality , we are a poor championship side , one among many others , see how burnley are doing , yet they walked the league last year . pozzos will off load at some point ........
Definitely depressing reading here ! https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/23902268.everything-watford-sideways-backwards/ I think the trouble is we haven’t got many quick and direct players who consistently influence a game positively which is why we do seem to play a negative style of football ( or rather the modern way to play as Pep does ..) Just need to be sharper and quicker on the front foot .
Our problem this year seems to be when we play our so called skilled players we get overrun in midfield and when we play our solid midfield players we do not create enough I am not sure if it is the wrong combinations of players or we simply dont have the players we need It all looked so good against QPR, we have been in this situation so many times the last fifty years so we have to cherish the good times and ride out the bad times but I won't turn against the club or players
And I am not sure getting someone like Eustace in would change much . Nice guy , good player and hard done by Birmingham but not sure if his teams were the most fluid in their football . Are the strikers going to suddenly become goal machines who move well ? To me we need to get the ball out wide more and cross but Martins likes to cut inside and Asprilla is a young player learning his trade so will be inconsistent. He wants them to attack but we aren’t very good at it because we haven’t got the players particularly up front to break teams down . I don’t think he is deliberately setting us up to be negative like a Ivic or Hodgson .
I still think it's down to coach's preferred style of play rather than the ability of the players. In terms of ability, this squad isn't too far removed from the one ten years ago - the one that scored what is probably our greatest 'team goal' ever - Battocchio's goal against, ironically, Huddersfield. VI may certainly have changed the mindset of the players for the better, but his tactics are questionable - as evidenced yesterday. Even with their ultra defensive 5-4-1 line up they were there for the taking - but for reasons that aren't too clear, we refused to accept the gift. Maybe it's just me, but I still think we should be playing Bayo and Rajovic up front together, and be targeting them from all angles at every opportunity rather than farting around with the ball, probing for openings that aren't there before giving the ball away.
Yes they might be better in front of goal as Rajovic has shown rather than being asked to make runs and hold the ball up . What about Healey as a different sort of striker . I suspect some just wish for the excitement we had under GT and Zola for example although with very different styles ! But modern football is very different now .
That's what the media said in 1982 when we first reached the top flight - and we took Division 1 by storm that season.
Oh I wish they would cross the ball at every opportunity, you never know what might happen. Asprilla despite his youth played some inventive forward passes yesterday although I wonder why he was stuck out on the wing I think he is better inside.
Do we have any genuine wingers on the books? According to our head coach, we have the two best full backs in the division, and they are expected to supply the crosses. Is this wingless football something new? Not really, as I remember Alf Ramsey winning the world cup with a team that was known as the "wingless wonders".
At the start of this season I think we all wanted Stability ie not sacking the Manager/Head Coach after 10 games A clear out of all the expensive dead wood A team we can all get behind The first two sorted for the third we need some careful recruitment in the next two transfer windows I dont think anyone here expected promotion this season but we do need some entertainment Would any of us want to be Norwich or Bournemouth supporters after this weekend Thought not
I agree, I am not unhappy with this more stable realistic approach with honesty from the manager. We are unbeaten in 5 games with several clean sheets I would now like a more exciting adventurous team. Earlier this season we had some entertaining games and that would be welcome.
