If nothing else, it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. IF (and it's a pretty big if) he is successful and is somehow made champion 15 years or more after the event, then it's going to open up one massive cam of worms and leave yet another stain on the sport.
Only 2 possible outcomes, either the result stands, or Alonso gets a DSQ and everybody moves up a place. Nothing really changes other than Felipe's bank balance goes down and his lawyers goes up.
None of us are proficient enough (apologies if you are) to know what the legal arguments could be. Nor do I know what the motivation of Felipe is, after 15 years. Is it a title that is driving this (no pun intended), that has become like a thorn that has to be extracted, for better or worse? Do his countrymen constantly ask him and have thereby driven him to this. Are the lawfirm on a no win no fee arrangement? Is it the ego of the lawfirm that therefore is driving this. Has liberty had a part in this, gaining publicity for the sport? You know that saying, no such thing as bad publicity! It has got the media talking, beyond the Max debate.
If he wins I may have to look into challenging the results of the 1984 school sports 200m, I was robbed.
I wouldn't think they would want anything going on that could potentially drive people away. Not much point investing time in something that could completely change years down the road. Although cycling did the right thing stripping Lance Armstrong of his wins, it did a lot of harm to cycling. Nobody truly trusts it and big questions still remain about who else was doping at the time. No good can really come from historically changing results.
None of us understand the motivation. If Felipe is still seething that is a long time, perhaps it is as simple as being able to get closure. Most people have something that annoyed them, most just move on.
I feel like he genuinely believes he should be champion. I don't believe that there is any other motivation beyond that. I really like Massa and I don't want to think lesser of him because of this. But he must be aware that pursuing this opens a massive can of worms and will likely hurt is reputation with some. I saw one comment where he said he was world champion for 11 seconds. I'm sorry, but he was never world champion. That doesn't happen until the final classification. And whatever antics Renault pulled during that race, every other team had to cope with the same set of circumstances. Who knows, had it not happened then the outcome of the title MAY have been different, but there is no telling what may have happened if not. A whole different set of circumstance would have played out in that race and beyond.
massa would be the worst f1 champion if it were true and that includes kimi. never a real racer, too soft.
Never really had a problem with either driver. Kimi was somewhat fortunate in his win, Massa was somewhat unfortunate in his loss. But that's the thing, luck is part of sport, life, everything.
they are fine, but not champions. champions are ruthless scumbags. you can look at any of the multi champions and see people who've done over rivals or team matesy
Massa can't hope to win a case based on what might have happened in the remainder of the race had x, y, or z not happened.
Although close a number of times, not a multiple world champion, you could probably construct a pretty long list if you included all the single champions. I would contend also that British biased site probably has a bit of a rose tinted regard towards him. He certainly had fallings out with teammates far worse than e.g. Verstappen or Schumacher ever have. (Not suggesting those were his fault or that he started them, but he certainly knew how to push back robustly).
Massa would certainly be the weakest champion of the modern era if was to be given 2008. That's really the only impressive season of his entire career. There are only two other seasons where he beats his teammate and one of those is against a 18yr old Lance Stroll. I would go further and say that he's not even the best non champion of his era. Guys like Bottas, Ricciardo and even Webber were all better than him. Kimi is more difficult to judge. Obviously very highly rated at McLaren, but he was pretty average everywhere else from 2008 to 2021. Comparing how Button/Rosberg did against Alonso/Hamilton to how Kimi did against Alonso/Vettel paints a very ugly picture. Either he was massively flattered by Newey rocketships early on or he entered a terminal decline whilst still in his twenties. No longer giving a **** after winning the title in 07 would be very in character though.
