Ascot 14,05 Red Rookie 4/1 Skip Cheltenham last week. Form after break: 11512F51 15,45 Beauport 4/1 Santa Anita 19,10 Warm Heart 3/1 bet365, Lads and Coral
At Santa Anita will stick with following top jockey Juan Hernandez 5.50-Maltese Falcon @ 12-1 7.50-Edna @ 20-1 9.10-Adare Manor @ 9-2 9.50-Gold Phoenix @ 66-1 11.59-Dr Schivel @ 6-1 1pt win on each
Glad to see Wetherby has got the go ahead so we will get 9 NH races on ITV prior to the transatlantic rubbish. Starting with the Charlie Hall and I have got a quiet fancy for Irish raider Gentlemansgame - even though the odds of 7/2 make no appeal whatsoever so a no bet race. Mouse Morris' son of Gentlewave ran a fine race in the PWC Champion Chase on reappearance over an inadequate trip and will relish the test today. Clearly Bravemansgame is top class but if he is going to be vulnerable this season then today could be the day. Earlier on the card the mares hurdle looks very tricky - heart says Luccia but head says no bet - as does the West Yorkshire Hurdle. I was quite keen on Thyme Hill until I saw his price so will take a chance that trip and going can help Botox Has take a step forward. Over at Ascot the novices hurdle is one that Nicky Henderson likes to target (has won 4 of the last 11 running including with Altior and MTOY) and his Jango Baie should know enough on rules debut. He was 2nd in a point that has thrown up 2 rules winners including Sharp Novices Hurdle 4th Williethebuilder. In the big handicap chases, Kim Bailey has two C&D winners in First Flow and Two For Gold (e/w) who should both go well but the form of Monbeg Genius last run has been massively boosted since and this could be the start of a very profitable season for him. Trainer Jonjo O'Neill won this with Go Conquer a few years ago - probably the last time I backed the winner of the race.
My Breeders Cup fancies; 6:30 Codys Wish 4/5 7:10 Inspiral 9/4 7:50 Yuugiri 18/1 8:30 Songline 100/30 9:10 Clairiere 11/2 9:50 Mostahdaf 11/4 10:40 Ushba Tesoro 7/2 11:25 Tony Ann 28/1 12o The Chosen Vron 13/2
INDEEVAR BLEU makes his hurdles debut at Ayr in the first race today. If he is going to achieve what I hope he can he will need to win this impressively although its a decent looking race. A couple of bumpers today. At Ayr I had two at nice prices HELSGETAWAY 9/1 and WILL TOMORROW DO 40/1 (taken 6 places at 28/1) At Ascot I really like ALL AUTHORIZED 5/1. Needs to defy a penalty and that is always a big ask in these races. Oak Grove is highly regarded by his yard.
Two I fancy at Ascot 13.30 Are U Wise To That 7/2 16.15 Oak Grove 7/2 Purely based on the fact that, at £250,000 as a 4yo, he fetched 4 times as much as he did as a 3yo and has been moved to F O'Brien which signals to me that he must be developing well and thought to have a future. First run for new stable
The increase in the sale price was purely due to him winning an Irish point to point Ron. Nothing special on pedigree but the yard do like him a lot apparently.
In the Breeders' Cup Classic today at Santa Anita (22:40), over 1m2f on the Dirt track, just cannot split White Abarrio and the Japanese champion Ushba Tesoro. Maybe White Abarrio has the better chance as Ushba Tesoro will need a clear passage for his explosive finish, however, he will surely get the fast pace he needs. 4/1 seems to be the best price for both horses with Oddschecker, although 7/2 might be more correct with Ushba Tesoro? .................... E/W on each plus Reverse Forecast. .................... Have a successful Saturday, folks!
Are U Wise To That didn't seem very wise towards fences. Not a very encouraging run considering Timeform's comment "Sure to progress and win more races". At what level though? Straightening out his jumping should eke out some improvement
The dam is 13yo and has yet to produce anything other than this one. She was also distinctly average when racing. On the plus side the 2nd dam produced some belters.
Could be quite wrong, of course, but I don't think either are that 'obvious', especially Inspiral, who just might find 1-1/4 miles a bit beyond her? Anyway, good luck, 7/1 is a fair old bet.
