Fantastic post and put more eloquently than I ever could.

The Yemen war is absolutely devastating. Nearly 400k dead and 85k babies starved to death. Millions of people displaced and whole towns and villages wiped out. Nothing more than a few passing comments on here about it.

Regardless of any counter arguments against the situation in Gaza. Hamas never comes back in the reply. It is 100% focused on Israel.

I used to use Facebook and I once wandered on to a Labour supporters page, I made one comment going against the majority, it was polite and non-argumentative. The replies I got back stunned me, accusing me of being an Israeli bot. Zionist troll. All centred around Jews and Israel. It’s the first time I’d encountered anti-semitism at that level and I’ve noticed it more since in a lot of people with left wing leanings. Israel gets them frothing and emotional. No other country or war does that to them regardless of the dire situation that may be in.

It is 100% anti Israel and anti Jew from a handful on here.

Can't say I've seen anyone anti-Jewish on here ... Aber is probably the most outspoken in terms of anti-Zionism ... the rest just anti Isreali state terrorism... the worst thing I've seen on here is some attempting to justify/ rationalise the slaughter of over 6,000 Palestinian women and kids ... truly shocking ...

Think the death toll is over 9000 now mate, not seen Israel post figures of how many Hamas fighters are among them.
Lot of land getting leveled there though that will need building on and people to fill those buildings.
What happened on 7th of October was horrendous and needed addressing but the Israeli's have seen it as a perfect time and excuse for a new settlement.

This is it how it goes.

Someone quotes Russia's invasion of Ukraine. UK government's position is on the side of the occupied not the occupier. Everyone generally agrees Russia are ****s, so what is there to "bang on about"?

Someone quotes Yemen, the government's position isn't great and some say we shouldn't be arming them but everyone generally agrees Saudi and Iran are ****s, so what is there to "bang on about"?

Syria, happened a while ago, the government's position is on the side of the oppressed not the oppressor. Everyone generally agrees the Asad regime and ISIS are ****s. So what is there to "bang on about"?

Sudan, no one's interested or knows much about it but it's a civil war. Current conflict started this year and it's hard to tell who's right or wrong. UK government's position is to condemn both sides in the conflict and to call for a ceasefire. Anyone who remembers the genocide in Darfur 20 yrs ago, will generally all agree Bashir and the Janjaweed who committed genocide were ****s. So what is there to "bang on about"?

Israel/Palestine been going on for at least 56 years. UK government's position has always supported the occupier NOT the occupied. To call out Hamas is cool, BUT to call out Israel (which has been in violation of United Nations international laws over their illegal occupation for those 56+ years)... and all hell breaks loose on here. Hence the need to "bang on about" it.

I'll add this, 20 years ago when we were leading up to the Iraq War, we'd have had the same level of disagreement about it on here, and those disagreeing with invading Iraq to avoid the bloodshed would've been accused of siding with Saddam (and all the ridiculous bullshit about him being in cahoots with Al Qaeeda and his WMDs) just like everyone who's disagreeing with Israel's actions are now being accused of antisemitism lol.

The irony is that many who accuse us of being complicit in war crimes in Iraq, are the very same defending Israel's war crimes in Gaza right now. I'm struggling to understand why it wasn't ok to go kill tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children at any cost to get rid of Saddam and his murderous regime, yet it's ok to support doing so in Gaza. Strange one that.

    Hypocrisy is indeed everywhere.

    Good night all.

Not sure about the Mauripol incident (theres been loads of citys bombarded) but my own opinion was that the media certainly gave it a good go. Can't remember on this thread as it was an ongoing thing.

If we are talking about recent Ukraine vs Russia stuff i think it's been going on for so long people have just sort of forgotten about it. I think its called media fatigue.

I guess in terms of the Israel/Palestine thing vs Russia/Ukraine there are two nuances:

    Ukraine/Russia
    1. Ukraine has been backed by the west vs Russian aggression so in terms of war capability they are matching up
    2. Ukraine / Russia is a war between country vs country so it's a very clear Ukranians vs Russians type thing (admittedly there are still loads of civs)

    For the Israel Palestine thing
    1. One is far more dominant technologically and has absolutely no chance
    2. It's probably more Israel vs Hamas and the palestinian people have been caught in between as the innocent party
    3. Israel was directly attached by Hamas terrorism aimed deliberately at innocents.

I think both have been just been reported on as highly.

Been here for 2 weeks nearly and its on the news everyday in HK. Very sad to see

If i was trying to point score, i would argue why didn't the people of mariupol get out of the city before invasion. There could be many reasons why they wouldn't, physical capabilities, don't have the money to leave, not wanting to leave loved ones behind etc. You can only hope that they get out of it without too many problems.

I only mention Yemen on here when I dare hear the House of Saud comment on these events in Israel.

They are absolutely the definition of hypocrites.

Then you have Bashar Al-Assad <laugh><laugh>

These Arab nations on one hand petition the US and UK to ground invade Syria and kill this ****, then on the other, invite him back and give him a hugs at the Arab Union and let him comment on Palestine <laugh>

People forget we had a vote in British Parliament about invading Syria, which Saudi supported <laugh>

They're slippery ****ers these people, more so than the West.

They will blow the holy living **** out of one another and laugh and shake hands and kiss each other, then cry the blues when it kicks off in Gaza.

Perhaps disappointed "if you kill all those kids, I wont be able to rape them :( "

It’s not really a tiny chance though is it. As soon as people moved south, Israel bomed the **** out of places like Khan Younis

    so nowhere is safe

For some Gazans it came down to the choice ‘where do we want to die ?’

Yeah they bombed the south positions where Hamas were.

I’d still be leaving an area with my kids when there’s an army warning me I’m about to be in the centre of a war zone.

I bet they didn’t even do a coin toss or rock, paper, scissors to decide North or South. They just dug their heels in and stayed in the most dangerous part. Bad parenting imho.
