There seems to have been a lot of discussion of badly behaved American bred dogs (I assume they are canines) in the couple of days since I was last here. What have they got to do with British Politics? Do they eat Spam? Does Rishi Sunak or Keir Starmer have one? It is surely not some euphemism for New York born Boris Johnson.

Just a guess but I think that BlackAndAmberGambler might be a fan of Hull City (‘The Tigers’, home kit colours black and amber) as well as, according to his member profile, a drunk.

Every rail ticket sold at this train station costs taxpayers £100 – but the status quo prevails

Simon Calder, the travel writer that is usually so anti-Tory for the Independent that he is unreadable, telling it how it really is at rural railway stations like Crowthorne in Berkshire: 263 tickets sold in 261 weekdays, one worker employed at the station to sell tickets. Communist Mick Lynch wants to save that one worker’s job and pay them more on a railway system that gets at least £17 million taxpayer subsidy a day.

Those wondering how train companies manage to keep paying dividends to shareholders should perhaps look at what the Taxpayers’ Alliance has to say on the matter. According to them, the average price of a ticket is £6.12 and the subsidy is £7.51 – so knock the subsidy on the head and make people pay what the tickets should really cost; and see if the train companies can make it pay.

The era of cheap money is over and no longer will politicians on the Left or the Right be able to promise us the moon

The article is a few days old but you can be sure that Rachel Reeves never read it. She certainly won’t be plagiarising any of it. In the policy free world of Shadow government, she won’t tell anyone how she is going to fulfil her fantasy agenda of growth and high pay jobs (other than spending wealth taxes six times over). Capital controls – like the 1970s (and with the same results) – are a fair bet.
