I'd be very surprised if there was no criminal investigation going to court over that.

Looked very deliberate, and not a move (moving a skate upward) that appears traditional in that sport as part of a usual move/play.

Haven’t seen the video, don’t really want to, but isn’t ice hockey the sport where you can just have a scrap and everyone lets you get on with it?

This obviously far worse by the sounds of it

Yeah having a scrap and swinging punches is one thing but deliberate aiming a high kick when you're wearing something designed to cut through solid ice is a whole other and has to be criminal.

I'm honestly astonished by media calling it a freak incident.

He does kinda get barged just before and maybe loses balance, leg into air. I dunno. Don't really want to watch it again.

    Have you watched the clip?

I have and it is pretty clearly accidental.

I haven't watched the incident but I find it very hard to believe someone would intentionally aim their foot at someone while wearing blades, particularly while playing professional sport.

I have yeah and it looked pretty intentional to me.

Not given it a second watch though for obvious reasons.

Yeah it is grim. His leg swung backwards and then up after he impacted with another player. Can't imagine that was in his thought process at all.

I seriously doubt the guy had any intention of serious harm, it is notable though that he had the worst disciplinary record in the entire league the previous season.

Looks like he went to body check one player tripped on his boot and it launched his foot in the air.

Ice Hockey is a sport with known risks and this is not the first time this has happened unfortunately it has happened at least twice in the NHL although miraculously both players survived (one was extremely lucky that one of their coaches was a former army medic and could reach him in seconds), I imagine this would be factored into any potential legal action as 'you know the risks when you play the sport'.

Just very sad all around and it appears going forward neck guards will be mandatory, as they should be.

We'll see. Hockey has a rather cavalier approach to basic player safety, and it's nothing short of miraculous that there haven't been any on-ice deaths at the NHL level. Neck/wrist guards should have been mandated years ago (as should full facial protection, given how regularly players are hit in the face with sticks/pucks), but the league and the player's association in particular will resist any mandates, while individual players refuse to wear anything that isn't mandated for fear that they will look soft.

Officially confirmed now, Cousins out for the season. With the trade deadline tomorrow be interesting what they do. Lots of different routes they could go down, expect them to **** it up whichever one they choose

I read this morning Vikings are probably staying put with their roster. No trades in or out. Which is probably the right call. Need to see what we've got with Hall. Sometimes all someone needs is an opportunity. His strengths apparently are that he can assess situations quickly (a necessary skill for a QB!), he's very athletic so has the ability to extend plays and get outside the pocket. His arm strength isn't great though and his ability to extend plays has got him injured several times including multiple concussions.

Id still look at trading anyone whose contract is up this year (Hunter and Smith mainly). I can also see the logic in seeing what they could get for Jefferson, but I doubt it would be enough to tempt them into a trade.

If they are to add anyone to the roster I’d like to think it would be an unattached QB to back up Hall in case he gets injured. Wentz is available and I think he is from the area as well. They also brought Colt McCoy in for a workout a few weeks ago so he could be an option.

Vikings won't trade Jefferson mid-season. I'm sure they'll re-visit contract talks in the off-season. Vikings actually still have a decent shot at reaching the play offs so they won't trade Hunter or Smith even if they should. The Cousins injury has the potential to be a blessing in disguise if Hall can prove he can play at a good level. Having a starting QB on a rookie deal opens a lot of doors, starting with making Jefferson the highest paid non-QB in the NFL (which is what he obviously wants).

Vikings have made their move. They have traded for Arizona QB Josh Dobbs.

How utterly stupid, didn’t the Cardinals give up a 5th for him a couple of weeks ago? Would indicate the Vikings paid more than that for him

I doubt it. Murray is almost back for them and they were clearly shopping Dobbs as they announced their rookie QB Tune would be starting Sunday. And we may be going with Hall as first choice, with Dobbs as backup in case it all goes wrong.

We're sending a 6th round pick to AZ, getting Dobbs and a 7th rounder in return.
