I have actually been saying to my friends that I think we should turn to a European manager to bring us something different this time. The situation with managers in the championship is really incestuous and the same names just go around the league from club to club. I was thinking we need some new, fresh ideas from the continent. Are his coaching abilities at Championship level? We shall find out.
Welcome Marti! I have mixed feelings about this… as someone wrote earlier he could be a right man but wrong time. Time will show… anyway it would not go any worse… hope this unlock something in the team….
"Football is a sport, and so of course we need to win...but it is important how we win." He then goes on to talk about the introduction of three at the back with wing backs, and how different formations have been introduced over the years, positioning and all he learnt under Yohan Cruyff at Barca. Sounds like a football genius, well connected across Europe and with an obvious plan. No disrespect to those who have come before, but chalk and cheese. Only question is if the players will respond positively.
Why is everyone so excited Is it because we don't have to put up with a footballing has been as our new manager or is it because the new bloke has won everything in every league he's been in
Can't speak for others, but I'm excited because; a) We've found a manager not many expected, slightly from left field, and the last time that happened it went extremely well until he turned into a snake. b) He has worked across Europe, under some of the very best coaches in football. c) Listening to his interview, he sounds like he wants his team to play exciting, attacking football, which is what we all like to see!
"QPR are getting a coach who is ready for the next step. One with a background in academy coaching who wants to develop players. "We must always look to the academy first," he says. At Hammarby, he brought the average age of the side down from 28 to 24." Maybe he can get a tune out of our younger players as well as the those in the first team. Hopefully exciting times ahead
Does a five year deal indicate complete confidence of survival or does it mean he's happy to guide us back from League 1. One think I'm confident about is an energised Smyth causing havoc. Surely he's just the sort of player this fella will turn into something potentially special?
Five year deal means he's cheap Good luck to him Hope he smashes records on the way to promotion from division one
We aren't going down anymore! After the international break we will start to see some progression and get up that table! All the while, actually seeing some football getting played!!!!!
Looks a much better appointment than we’ve seen for some time (the snake included). Listening to his podcast interview he already understands coming into a new team and introducing his ideas simply at first and building from there. He’s got a lot to sort out - there’s a lot of disinterested and disillusioned players in his squad. One thing I like is he builds to the players he has at his disposal and he plays to the opposition - no fixed format and formation, no ‘there’s only plan a’. He has his ideals but he understands he needs to work with what he has (for now). Worst case scenario, when he did go down with a team he changed and rebuilt the team and got them straight back (presumably to his ideals). Our analytics team will be very busy by the sound of it. Once we stave off relegation this season, what I’d like to see him do from next season is rebuild the academy approach to meet the first team needs. He has a lot of experience there and it would be wasteful of the board not to change everything now. It needs to be done, might as well do it now. Change the academy, change the culture. I’m looking forward to November with greater interest now.
Ie get rid of Ramsey and his 1001 assistants who have stolen a living for nearly a decade….. ….getting the first team playing actual football is a big enough ask for the next few months though. Looking forward to this little journey.
