West Ham have blown hot and cold so far this season. So not really sure what sort of performance they'll put in on weds. Will be an emotional return for Declan Rice (if he plays) but he's well and truly a Gooner now and fast becoming one of our best players.
Honestly? I think he's going to be left at home for this one. With Newcastle away on Saturday, I can only see us fielding a predominantly second string side. I expect the likes of Rice, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Saliba, maybe even Zinchenko, to not be involved in any capacity. We might see a youth academy player or two involved just like we did in the last round. Although I want us to win this competition, I just feel like, with the crucial injuries we have at the moment and Newcastle obviously being the bigger priority, we will definitely field a weakened XI to not risk any further injuries to key players. The League Cup is the lowest of our priorities.
It is, and I'd like to see Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri get some game time in this one. Did you see the goal that Cozier-Duberry scored against Brighton in the U21 yesterday ?
Yeah, he looks a like a Saka regen. Top talent. Wouldn’t be opposed to him being involved in the game on Wednesday night either, but let’s see. I actually think West Ham are going to field a strong team, so not sure if we’ll progress, but I said the same at Brentford too. So who knows?
Wears the No7 shirt and actually looks like Saka too Yeah I think West Ham will go full strength. It will be a big test for our young players.
Have we started taking this a bit more seriously now City are out? Stronger team than we'd have put in previous years I reckon.
There was clearly a foul on Ramsdale for West Ham’s opener but due to no VAR, it wasn’t spotted. Annoying goal to concede because West Ham had done nothing and we’ve gifted them a goal from nowhere.
Haverts - every time he gets in good position he just lamely kicks the ball nowhere in particular. Just put your foot through it and shoot!!
HT. 1-0. We haven’t been amazing but we’ve not been terrible either. We’re unlucky to be losing in any case. But we didn’t really respond that well after going behind. Saying that, Eddie missed two chances he probably could have scored. Meh. It is what it is. If we’re still in the game by the 70th minute, I’d consider bringing on the big guns to see if we can snatch something from the game. I wasn’t expecting us to get through to the next round anyway, but I at least want to see us give it a go.
Really frustrating half. Lots of players playing ok but lacking the real killer instinct in the final 3rd. No one prepared to inject a burst of speed. Nelson is really winding me up with his greed. Trossard needs to step up - he's been the worst player on the pitch so far..
TBH his confidence must have been shattered by the fans reaction to him. You can see he is devoid of even a drip of confidence right now.
We must be the only team in football whose goalkeeper is not protected. Shirt pulling, rugby tackles - none of it matters when done on our keeper(s). Its not possible for the ref and the linesman to miss it. They decided it was ok.
Zinchenko’s inability to defend is really quite something. You can see why he’s been relegated to second choice for Tomiyasu.
