I like Ainsworth. There I said it.

I think the job he did at Wycombe was very good to be honest. Wasnt my style of football by any means, but he was able to create a team there that may the best in their modern history. Certainly in terms of effectiveness and results. He always came across as honest and decent in interviews. Bit of a quirky look perhaps, but he is in a band as well. No rules against that. He always seemed fair with us as well, not one of those who whined and moaned like an Evans for example.

I dont blame him for trying QPR, it is one of his clubs. They look a basket case off the pitch. Be interesting to see what Warnock gets out of them.

Anyway, I hope he gets back in somewhere. He is a bit of a change from the vanilla managers that can exist around the leagues.

You might well be right. I do recall the incident with Watmore. I just think overall his Wycombe job was better tham should have been expected.

His rock star 'waving to his fans' performance at Wembley summed him up ... and he failed miserably.

One of the worst ever displays in a final and all because Wycombe couldn't play their normal cheating game.

Dan Smith was that, looked it up and it was an horrendous challenge, going back further these things were far from rare,, fortunately the game has moved on, and "The Wanderer" needs to do the same. He will probably end up back at Wycombe.

Thuggery at Wycombe was systematic under Ainsworth who encouraged that, timewasting and all kinds of cheating.

It was always the 'poor little Wycombe' routine from Ainsworth who tried it at QPR and the players just downed tools.

They should be bottom half of mid-table, with the squad they have, but he's just not a good manager who can adapt.

He claims he had 'great success' at Wycombe but that claim is as fake as he is.

It's not as though he's had to cut his cloth to suit his length because of what he's got to play with, his style hasn't changed at all. He's not tried to evolve or adapt and be "better", just the same all the time at Wycombe and trying the same at QPR. To be honest it's only worked at Wycombe, more out of luck because of the ludicrous PPG policy in the curtailed season, but was showing signs of no longer working in the last couple of seasons.

Yep, we are better off without tackles like that. I am afraid I had very little sympathy for Dan Smith at the time. Just watched it again and I still have none. It was awful.

All that said Wenger did take it too far afterwards with his threat to sue Dan Smith. It may have been what promoted Ball to keep backing him. Just re-read one of Balls comments and that was Smiths conscience was clear over it all. It isnt that often challenges end careers, but not sure Diaby played a whole lot after that.

Wenger was the best at manager speak wasnt he. Never criticised his players because he didnt see it. Always up in arms about his own players being kicked. Mind you he produced some wonderful teams to watch, unlike my best mate Gareth.

All very fair mate. I do think he was largely responsible for Wycombe becoming a top end league 1 side, from league 2. Maybe that is his level, but I still think it is an achievement on his behalf. Luck on the PPG stuff, but not so much on the climb from league 2. Just an opinion on his football achievement. 500 games at 1 club isnt to be sniffed at, but like I have said I am not a fan of his football.

Aye, there is something in that.

Wycombe over achieved under him, no doubt about it. His appearance is not for many mind, but as you say, it's his business. He'll need another club of that size at the max to do that stuff again. Terrible to watch and I felt they sometimes put players welfare in unnecessary danger with some of their wild tackling.

But I will give him credit for his demeanour after the play off final. I wasn't there, so it was telly for me. He was very fair after the match. None of the usual ifs and buts, just that the result was right and they were well beaten. You don't always hear that.
