Max should have come for the fiirst goal and punched it away-just stood there looking at his defenders.
Which, was the place we needed to improve. Everything else, the stadium, training facilities etc. was already in place when NP walked through the door thanks to SL. We haven’t progressed in 3 years now, who is too blame?
He did the same to a previous manager as well RR, didn’t see you backing that manager though did we. It’s clear SL is the problem, as the same issue is now repeating itself, with a different CEO and manager this time
I can see clearly now the reign has cleared. Ah yes but who's reign? I must say that if I were Nigel I would walk as soon as possible to save face at least and on his terms.
Can’t disagree with too much of that if I’m honest, especially the bit about money isn’t everything when it comes to building a team.. Getting players to gel and preparing the right tactics for every game is key along with consistency and commitment. Something we’ve lacked for quite a while. We gave it a go against you, but the better team won.. We move on.. Good luck with the rest of your season
The the exception of Conway, Bell, and Pring the rest are decent L1 players and in Wells and Weimann I’d show them the door and bring in a keeper that doesn’t cost us points every week
I think a bit harsh making Max the scapegoat for our failings, imo he’s not the issue.. I personally think he’s done ok, as with all our players he has mistakes in him.. Injuries has certainly played a role to our inconsistent form, especially in key positions. I still think we lack creative player in the middle and an out and out striker with an eye for goal and willing to shoot rather than us either trying to walk it in or crossing from the wing to meet no one.. Yesterday yet again we started quite well and then sat back and allowed Cardiff into the game.. really poor passing and giving the ball away easily was our downfall.. Second half when we pressed we looked much better, but again bad passing or wrong decisions cost us.. Some of it is basics, which is not acceptable imo.. Our coaches and manager must take some responsibility as well as the players.. I’m hoping we get some points before the international break and then able to bring back some of those injured key players.. We can’t afford a relegation battle and I still think we have a chance to finish higher than last season with a minute chance of sneaking a playoff place with the wind blowing in the right direction!! (I’ve been on the brandy)!!!
Our midfield is the issue, too many plodders and not enough creativity. None of the signings in the last 2 windows have hit their mark yet, and look poor purchases. Cornick puts himself about, but couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo. I agree Weimann looks like he’s past it, I think Wells can still do a job, but not if the plan is to have Sykes & Pring lofting in crosses from the wings And before the usual excuses come out about no money, Cardiff have ZERO money to spend, yet their signings have worked out far better than ours, and they sit in the play-off places. I have had my doubts about our coaching team for a while now, and when I see teams like Cardiff, put together on a shoestring budget, but well drilled and work as a unit. I can’t help but see why SL is hesitant, after 3 years of no noticeable, or tangible progress with the team and league positions, to offer a new contract to NP, and by extension his coaching team.
Bristol City have not spent more than Cardiff City FC. The money CCFC received from parachute payments makes the comparison uneven. BCFC this season won't be promoted, or relegated. Bristol City with a couple of players could be contenders. That would be similar to many clubs. Its rare clubs become contenders when putting their spending into reverse, Bristol City's budget is in reverse.
I have no personal axe to grind with Max but I just think he would benefit from a season or so u under an experienced championship number 1
I don’t think it’s all about spending, but spending wisely. It’s all relative, 5 years ago this division was awash with money, and even then BCFC were never in the top 10 of spenders in this division. Now we are spending less, but so is everybody else, I suspect we are still in about roughly the same position in terms of spending in this league now, just the amounts have decreased. I’m sick of people on here going on about spending like we were the only ones that did it did 4-5 years ago, and are now the only ones that aren’t, it’s simply not the case. Our signings have been poor over the last 2 years, not one of them appears to have the potential to turn in to a multi-million sale like Brownhill, Webster etc. So we have sold the family jewels, but the academy can only do so much to prop us up, as it has over the last 3 seasons. We need better recruitment, and better coaching once they are recruited.
Bristol City's budget is no longer where it was, looks towards the bottom eight. Yes Bristol City are spending a LOT less. Everybody else is not making the huge cuts BCFC have. Nigel Pearson is not allowed to sign a Kalas, a Massengo, A Baker .. He is not allowed to spend similar sums to those spent on loaning in stars like Kent and Diony. Yes, its about spending wisely, I think Mr Pearson deserves more money, and the club can release more funds for Mr Pearson to spend. Money is there by Mr Lansdown's admission.
But he can sign a Brownhill, only £1m, but he hasn’t! I agree that he should be given some of the money form the sales of both AS. Do you question why he hasn’t, is it SL recouping his spends, or, he doesn’t trust NP not to waste it on more L1 players. Who knows! Again, you assume everyone has a bigger budget than us, but I’m not so sure they do, that’s just an excuse for where we are. Cov, Luton, Millwall, Preston etc, all have smaller budgets than us, probably also Cardiff right now. Swansea have also slashed their spend, as have WBA, Watford eat al. All of those have done better than us recently.
SL needs to understand that owning a football club is a huge gamble. One thing about gambling is that the odds are always against you. You CAN win, but winning is never guaranteed. What IS guaranteed though is if you don’t place a bet you will NEVER win. If SL is holding back because he feels ‘stung’ by the LJ/Ashton era (as some have suggested) then we’ll never, barring a miracle make the PL.
No. I have not. I can look at clubs finances on line. Bristol City's spending, its budget and its recent financial history is not everyone's. Mr Pearson's hand is not typical. Yes I wholly question why Steve Lansdown has completely changed how he runs BCFC, again. Mr Lansdown's running of BCFC has always been puzzling. I think Mr Lansdown is biding his time before he gets rid of Nigel Pearson and will not be loosening his clubs restrictive budget till he makes his change.
I agree with most of your comments. However I'm afraid Max gets worse not better with games. The first goal was a cross inside the 6yrd box. No attempt to go to the ball and punch, just retreated back to his goal line and throws his legs out. Bloody joke. He's genuinely scared of getting hurt, a trait that the best keeper's (we both know keepers are a sandwich short of a picnic) don't have. Noticed a long time ago, and I wrote it on here, he's not the bravest (I'm being polite).
