The 4-0 defeat still a horror show Ledson at full back against Bowen oh dear, oh dear, didn't end well

    LOCAL HISTORY

Hull was a medieval wool port that passed from the monks of Meaux Abbey to Edward I, king of England, in 1293. Edward renamed the town Kingston upon Hull. It prospered as the chief seaport for the shipping on the inland waterways that converge on the estuary of the River Humber.

    Who’s Available?

Ryan Lowe will provide a team news update in his pre-match press conference, but everybody appeared to make it through Wednesday’s clash with Southampton unscathed.

Before that meeting with the Saints, the manager said there was a “big, big possibility” of Andrew Hughes returning for the visit to Hull, but his progress will continue to be monitored.

Ali McCann, Calvin Ramsay, Emil Riis and Jack Whatmough will be expected to miss out.

    Opposition Focus

In his first full season as manager, Liam Rosenior has overseen a positive start to the campaign – picking up 20 points from 13 matches.

The 39-year-old, who took over in November 2022 for his first managerial role, led the Tigers to a 15th-placed finish last term, and has since added plenty of quality to the ranks.

Having gone four without a win, Hull came out 2-0 victors over Birmingham City on Wednesday, with former North End striker Liam Delap scoring his fourth goal of the season that night.

    A Recent Clash

Cameron Archer scored his second goal for PNE to earn a 1-0 victory over Hull City in February 2022.

    Match Officials

    Referee: Lewis Smith
Assistant Referees: Alex James and Matthew Smith
    Fourth Official: Martin Woods

Having recently been promoted to the next level of refereeing, Lewis Smith will take charge of his first Preston North End match at the weekend.

So far this campaign, Smith has shown 62 yellow cards and three reds in 15 matches, in a variety of competitions.

    MACS VIEW

A quick turnaround of to Humberside against a vastly improved Hull side, 2000 plus away support also massive thanks to the Hull board for the ticketing prices £15 max or a £10 for us old gadges a bargain. No doubt we will triple the prices for the return

Wednesday was a much better performance sets the standard still a sod we didn't win but that was then this is now. Look forward to the pre match stroll around the ground and up to the hospital, traditional now

Hull City line-up: Allsop; Coyle, Jones, McLoughlin, Greaves; Traoré, Seri, Twine; Lokilo (Docherty, 72), Delap, Philogene (Vinagre, 95). Subs not used: Ingram, Tufan, Sinik, Vaughan, Smith, Christie, Connolly.
PNE line-up: Woodman; Potts, Storey, Lindsay, Cunningham (Best, 32); Whiteman, Ledson (Woodburn, 76), Holmes (Evans, 60), Browne, Millar (Brady, 76); Keane (Osmajić, 32). Subs not used: Cornell, Bauer, Frøkjær, Stewart.

    Attendance: 24,267.

    Referee: Mr M Woods.

The seven game unbeaten run seems to have been a long time, seven without a win all against teams in the upper reaches of the league, probably the right result as they had the best player on the pitch Philogene

(Take your time you will get it)
For £5 million the lad seems a bargain destined for higher things, whilst he caused danger at the front, Greaves at the back was also outstanding, won everything.
A misty journey to East Yorkshire the hills above Huddersfield hid the place perhaps no bad thing. Even a bit of mist at the top of the Humber Bridge towers.
Pre match wander over the bridge past the hospital back towards the ground to the double level crossing never seen one of these before very unique.
North End brought back Ledson which promotes the question, WHY? Can't play him and Whiteman in the same side but Mr Fantastic thinks we can.
Fairly even first half with few goal mouths incidents both sides gave as good as they got, given the Stadium's history as a cricket ground, Woodman's half track throw out nearly gave a goal away bailed out by his defence, Miller gave them some problems although possibly may need to stay on his feet in the penalty area.
On the half hour a double blow for North End as both Keane and Cunningham suffered strains probably not see either of them again before December.
Before the break City should have been ahead, Philogene clean through on goal took the ball around Woodman then seemed to lose concentration allowing defenders to clear the ball, massive let off

Thought e started the second period well however Philogene had forced a save from Woodman before halfway through the half he scooted down the wing again, would like to say he rode tackles on the way to the area but they were non existent, he fired home off the post.
We made changes looked more dangerous an Evans reverse ball found Browne, ball across the box Miller fired wide(should have done better) Evans had a shot saved by the outstretched foot of Allsop, also a home header narrowly went over the top of his own goal.
Not mentioned the penalty we didn't get tradition, Browne through hauled down by the defender, then hauled down by the keeper in 15 seconds, the replacement referee Mr Woods didn't give it, add that to the blatant ones we didn't get last Saturday and Wednesday, however gives Mr Fantastic a get out clause
    Need to do better

A lot of Preston fans on the 'PNE On-Line' message board seem to be of the opinion that Jaden Philogene is on loan at HCAFC from Aston Villa....Nothing could be further from the truth...City parted with the thick end of £5m for him....Villa's loss, is our gain...
