fans = yes and no Atmosphere, sell outs yes, for cash into the club, not really, and this isnt just us i am talking about, its all clubs, as soon as TV money is worth more than gate receipts, you have problems imho, yes the bigger clubs will always get full houses as they are doing well, and they get more showing on TV so get even more money. The way Sky should have been set up when it first started is like this. 6 regional areas SE, London, SW, Midlands, NW, NE All games should be played on a Saturday, but still have differing times, and 1 on a Sunday (which isnt effected by what i am about to say). then only games that have sold out on the Wednesday before could be shown live on the local sky. (yes you still have the foriegn problem and pubs/clubs showing them but thats the clubs fault anyway tbh and came into effect after Sky and the PL). I do believe we would have more bums on seats in the stadium, we may not have filled it, but we would get more imo. I have also said the following before, how can he put his hand in his pocket, me and you could run the club with £1 in our back pockets these days, you dont need a millionaire/billionaire as you can only spend what you make, yes we may be ****e and get us relegated, but then we may also have some great ideas and bring lots of cash in from elsewhere, We could have Warren Buffet and Bill gates as co Chairman, and it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference, as they still couldnt spend sod all of their own cash. To be fair to us fans, 37,000 of us turned up today, a cold November day in a poor season, not sure what else we can do.
Dont get me wrong, I am not blaming the fans at all, a lot have been priced out of it £28 for 90 minutes for the cheapest adult ticket, nothing else in the enternainment industry (and it is entertainment, or should be lol) comes close to that price for how long you get. Unemployment is rife, if you live out of the city, getting in and out of the stadium is a nightmare on matchdays, drink and food is way over priced as well. Bring the prices down a lot, more fans will turn up, build more car parks, let them have barbecues etc before the match in the car parks, more fans will turn up, have a fair or some **** next to the stadium, more fans will turn up (with their families), make it a day out, not just an hour and a half and just the match itself, more fans will turn up. There are lots of things they can do to get bums back on seats, they just wont do it though.
Steve when Niall made his comments about the fans in the pubs, I said then the majority of them wouldn't go any way. I also said that the only way to get ditherers in, would be to give them something to watch on the pitch. I agree with you on the pricing too, it seems a lot of people don't realise how much of a chunk of a basic wage the entry fee is. It never seemed like a big chunk of my wages to go in the 70s and 80s and I could afford to go to away games too. My son can comfortably afford it, as he has no other financial worries. Family men have to budget to pay for their ticket. It amazes me they haven't turned the other side of the stadium into a car park. (I see that gate on its own is still there leading no where. )
