Great result. Wasn’t the best performance and I actually thought we played better against Southampton but sometimes in the Championship, you need to grind out those scrappy 1-0 wins. Mentally, it will be good for the players to finally win at home again.
Just a slight aside. Why do plod allow away fans to walk all the away around the car park to get back to the stadium?.....Quite a few Preston coming out of WS car park to get into West Park, getting lost and walking into loads of City fans exiting. Sadly, recipe for a bit of bother. Luckily they and City fans were good natured...Not so sure other fans will be the same.
That’ll do for me. I thought an enjoyable game, we were in control, they were there for the taking. Might only be 1 nil, but a massive 3 points against a top 6 team, another clean sheet, back to back wins, hard fought home win at last, psychologically a monkey off the shoulder. Thought the ref was poor, lost early control of the constant fouling, but also saved us from a couple of decent penalty shouts. Philogene was a thorn in Preston’s side, they couldn’t live with him, and whilst he was frustrating with his extra touches/show boating, deserved his goal, should have had more. When we moved the ball at pace we cut through them at ease. Ahead of game, I was concerned with choice of Traore in midfield, but thought he was impressive as was Seri. Captain Coyle deserves a mention also. Can’t deny the last 10 mins were squeaky bum time. All in all, a fab afternoon, another 3 points, full on commitment from everyone to the end. UTT. Now strictly unavailable! Don’t forget clocks go back an hour tonight. An extra hour to savour our win!
Don't think I've ever seen a City player with such natural talent as Philogene, not even Bowen or anyone from the PL days. Just needs to work on his decision making at times, know when to pass etc, but that will come, as will consistent finishing and putting away chances like that one in the first half
Quick mention for the midfield as well. More than matched theirs despite my concerns beforehand about them possibly being too lightweight
He brought like for like against Southampton and got chastised for it. They were always going to go direct in the last 15 mins. I personally think the subs he made were the right ones but he hasn't got a lot more options in holding a lead from the bench. The bench was quite attacking with Tufan, Sinik, Connolly and Vaughan all unused.
The thing is with Philo, is that being double marked in this division might not be enough, the dragging of other players to try to dispossess him will leave acres of space for those quick enough to join if he can pick a pass. Before the goal, the one that was saved 5 were trying to stop him and he still got the shot off...
Same reason they allow/encourage them to go straight up the slope to walk amongst City fans going over the footbridge to town. To encourage bother to make sure next games overtime is assured?
Ref was shocking. There were a couple moments when it looked like he was going to give a card for a foul but because the free-kick was taken quickly, he didn’t bother. He didn’t have a grip of the game at all. Like a **** substitute teacher.
We were getting done time and time again down the left and conceding a lot of corners, so Vinagre on for Greaves to give us more height in the box made a lot of sense to me. I agree with a lot of people, this week wasn't as good as last week - but it was really pleasing to grind out a 1-0 win against a side that disrupted the game a lot. This could be a good season. I'm not convinced we'll go up - but it could be a lot of fun.
this is true i think we can also be lucky he didn't give a pen to them apparently it was only his fourth game at this level, i feel it might be his last for ahwile
The managers Hull's Liam Rosenior: "I think for 80 minutes we completely controlled and dominated the game. We were the better team and came out on the right side of the result. We were the team who wanted to play football and I think the right side won on the day. Hopefully it gives the players confidence we can win games consistently at this level. It was a big three points and we showed different sides to our game. You need to be able to see things out and we did that." "It was a brilliant individual goal and that's what Jaden is capable of. He was so disappointed in the dressing room at half-time when he didn't score but we got around him as a group and said, 'The next one will go in' We had a huge turnaround in the summer and it has taken time - we've got a young team - but this gives the players confidence and composure that we're on the right track. We look more solid and we look like we're not going to concede. I felt really comfortable with the team. Preston's Ryan Lowe: "We tried everything to not only get one point, but to get three points. We definitely deserved something from the game, but we can't have their best player have that moment - we didn't quite deal with the goal as well as we should have done. It's hard to get back from that because any team in the Championship can see a game out. I couldn't have asked for anymore, really. I thought a fair result was a draw - two football teams trying to lock horns - but we could have done better with the goal. "The lads have given us everything, but we lacked a little quality in the top end. We've just got to make sure we learn quickly from it. We feel let down by a decision which has cost us. I've got to be careful what I say. The defender's made a rick because he let the ball bounce and maybe if Browny stays down we get it. It's frustrating as we were building up momentum at the time."
Good point DBT, well made...Surely the solution is to hold them back, but of course in this day and age that's against their human rights. As is getting tw@ted by some thug, intent on kicking off.
We look a lot more solid with Macca in the middle and Greaves at left back, back to back clean sheets now. Just wish Macca wouldn't take 3 to 5 business days to pass the ball.
It was 12 seats between North and away fans I counted them so 30 rows, 360, plus whatever the gap was in the East still a lot from sold out
Some teams appear to come for a draw, though from early on it felt like PNEnd at best aimed for a late smash and grab 'draw'...
Yes but he picks out some beautiful forward passes. Eg the one to Philogene to set up a goal scoring chance.
