"Let's make Britain great again and get back to where we used to be!"

Well at least that's one promise they’ve managed to keep.

    upload_2023-10-24_12-7-46.png August 1861

"More than 1 million children experienced destitution last year – meaning their families could not afford to adequately feed, clothe or clean them, or keep them warm – according to a major study which reveals an explosion of extreme poverty in the UK.

Severe material hardship was “no longer a rare occurrence”, the study found, with rates of destitution more than doubling in the last five years as a result of benefit cuts and cost of living pressures, leaving struggling households increasingly reliant on regular charity handouts.

Poverty campaigners, teachers and frontline welfare workers have expressed growing alarm about the damaging effects of destitution, particularly on children, including physical ill health, undernourishment, mental illness, social isolation, school absences and poor classroom behaviour."

    Sunak’s latest U-Turns continued....

    https://www.theguardian.com/politic...ncreasingly-futile?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

    1. A bill on conversion practices was said to be in the upcoming king’s speech, before a campaign by a leading figure on the Tory right, Miriam Cates, sparked an apparent reverse ferret by the government.

    2. Plans to boost housebuilding by axing nutrient neutrality rules have also reportedly been axed, because of the challenge of getting the legislation through parliament.

    3. A promise to end “no-fault evictions” also looks set to be kicked into the political long grass, in part because of widespread hostility by Tory MPs – a fifth of whom are said to be landlords.

    4. Sunak backtracked on housing targets and...

5... a ban on new onshore windfarms.

The moves were designed to neutralise Tory infighting and restore some stability to the party, after its disunity contributed to toxifying the Conservative brand.

Tory MPs are losing faith in Sunak’s ability to wrestle back control.

“He’s increasingly weak,” said one former minister. “All the tribes jostling against one another are just gaining in confidence.”

I wouldn't worry to much, as most Tories will not have a seat much longer.

For the few against the many, that could be his election slogan.

"Conservative MP Crispin Blunt has been arrested in connection with an allegation of rape and possession of a controlled substance."

What a slimy piece of work this bloke is. IIRC he's previously left his wife and kids to 'pursue his homosexuality' and attacked Israel repeatedly over Gaza. He once claimed to have used drugs to keep himself awake in the House of Commons ...

... presumably during one of Sunak's PMQs <laugh>

Jonathan Pie just nailed the "Oh they're all the same" nonsense. Labour's shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves is being attacked for "copying and pasting" something from Wikipedia, whilst Tory MP Crispin Blunt has been arrested on suspicion of rape and possession of class A drugs. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

A better comparison might be to Boris Johnson who also was accused of not really writing his book.

I really like Reeves, but it is madness to use this comparison to put down the all the same accusation isnt it? Maybe just me but it is a silly statement.

This was always going to happen and it’s all about interpretation. As soon as war broke out I thought it would be the single biggest threat to Labours lead in the polls but they have officially taken the same line as most other countries and the government, personally I think that is correct.

You cannot pick a side in this war, just speak out against the violence in general.
