It's funny how many people say MON. In his time at Villa he won naff all and their league position hardly changed. They were a 6th to 10th placed club when he arrived. Same when he left. When he resigned he stated lack of funding as the main reason... Next.
I notice you conveniently forget that he transfomed Leicester City into a mid table to top 10 premiership club whilst winning two league cups and also runners up in the same competition within a 4 year timeframe. The same Martin O'Neill who was mocked for taking the Celtic job and then went onto break the decade long stranglehold that Rangers had over Celtic by winning the Scottish league 3 out of the 5 years he was in Scotland? Whilst Martin O'Neill was the manager of Villa the pundits always replied 'Villa' when asked which team were most likely to break into the top 4 back in the day... Martin O'Neill's worst points total with Villa was 50 which is 3 more than Bruces best for SAFC. I suppose minor details like these shouldn't be noted when considering who would be a suitable manager for a club like Sunderland who have aspirations to win domestic cups and make a good fist of finishing in a Europa league position. Taking into consideration the new FPP rules, Neither Martin O'Neill nor any other manager is in any position to demand a limitless budget from any club.
The pundits can say what they like mate. The best he did was sixth, with a club used to finishing about sixth. Or even higher. He's hardly going to come to Sunderland when his main reason for quitting Villa was lack of funds.
Leicester City, Celtic and the FPP are not valid points? Something we ought to brush under the carpet without consideration? We could attract Martin O'Neill to this club. I'm absolutely certain of it.
"Leicester City, Celtic and the FPP are not valid points?" They are of course. We just have to realize we will never get above 7th without major investment. If Short was to say "Bruce is sacked, I'm bringing in MON with a huge transfer kitty". ****ing get in. Happy days. Then again why not just give it to Bruce, who in his time has spent nowt, whilst improving us from 16th to 10th in two years.
Because Bruce has never proven he is capable of winning anything.... Bruce has however relegated Birmingham. Last season we moved closer to relegation than we were the season before... we were 6 points a CLOSER... As I've said before, finishing 10th didn't prove anything because there were only 7 points between 10th and 17th... it was a very tight season for which we managed to survive by our good start to the season. This season we have a standard Steve Bruce season.... Bruce is proving that he is taking us closer to relegation once again this season, the only difference is that our position in the table is now beginning to reflect the points total. We have continued where we left off... We are now 1 place above where we were when Ricky left... Lets just get rid and bring in a manager with a proven CV.... Martin O'Neill has proven that he is capable of winning titles and cups.
Did we move closer to relegation last year? We finished with more points and three places higher. Didn't we? MON has won nowt in England, which is unfortunate as it's where we play.
Martin O'Neill has won two league cups with Leicester City. 1997 and 2000. We wouldn't want that as SAFC though would we? 2009-2010 13th place with 44 points and 14 points clear of 18th. (That is a season where finishing 10th proved something) 2010-2011 10th place with 47 points and 8 points clear of relegation. (That is a season which proved very little) 2011-2012 15th place with 2 wins from 12 games and two points above relegation. So far we have 11 points from 12 games... So to stand still we will have to find 36 points from the next 24 games. That is a 50% point accumulation ratio higher than our current projected total.
