    So Netanyahu is pro Hamas.

He also pulled out of peace talks when Hamas and PA agreed to put their differences aside to negotiate with Israel.

It’s clear he doesn’t want peace

Thank goodness for Private Eye to shine a satirical light on the nonsense notion that if you criticise Israel then it’s somehow anti semitic

No mate it's all ISIS and Iran. We must eradicate worldwide Islamic extremism before looking at a two state solution.

    Good luck with that.

I noted the irony of Biden’s ‘It’s like 5x 9/11’ comment, given that more than double the amount of people have now been killed in Gaza

Yes, CK will dismiss it out of hand because while there is a very strong political undercurrent for Gaza to be absorbed into Egyptian sovereign territory in its entirety (the Trump administration was very keen on this idea for example), the notion that Israel wants to drive 2.2million people into the Sinai and take Gaza for itself is absolute bollocks.

He doesn't and never really has.

He needs to go. The whole country needs him to go. He is like a chronic illness, slowly draining the region of its life force.

I hope if nothing else the atrocities of the past few weeks have made people here wake up to the fact that he is a charlatan.

So Gaza to be removed from Palestine….at the behest of Israeli pressure is the salient point here.

    Either way, it’s another Nakba

What happens to Palestine if Gaza becomes a part of Egypt ? The occupied West Bank continues to be eroded with further settlements.

Sell it to me that the end game here isn’t to wipe Palestine off the map

that won't happen as Egypt won't accept them for what i would have thought were fairly obvious reasons .

Palestine as a sovereign state doesn't exist and never did. Why do you speak of it like it does and did? The political fate of Gaza is far from a fait accompli.

The question is offering Gazans the choice between independent statehood with no easy land connection to the West Bank and border control on all sides with all accompanying trade duties and tariffs, i.e. an exclave of sorts. Or, to become an enclave of Egypt with open borders, and full access to that economy, trade and territorial waters.

I think the most sensible thing would be to actually consult the people of Gaza in a referendum, as you and I can only speculate as to their actual wishes.

But Hamas would never allow such a referendum and Egypt would never want it.

Or even a return to the 1947 borders with a land connection and full control over its airspace and territorial waters

Now this reads like a fait accompli….

Either accept that if you want statehood you have to accept Israeli control of your borders, airspace, territorial waters and trade routes

Or **** off to Egypt where you are ‘allowed’ all of the above and Israel achieves its aims of preventing a Palestinian state.

As well as Hamas and Egypt, I think you know that this is not acceptable to Palestinians either

I never said any of that.

You have a knack of reading in between lines that don't exist.

There would be a Palestinian state in the West Bank.

The question is if Gaza should be a part of that, or absorbed into Egypt.

From a purely economic point of view, the latter makes much more sense.

From a sentimental and emotional point of view, the former makes much more sense.

All I'm saying is I'd be intrigued to know which option the people of Gaza would prefer. I don't 'know' that this is not acceptable to Palestinians in Gaza, quite simple because no one (their own leadership included) has ever presented them with a concrete vision of the future and how it would benefit them, nor have they ever been consulted on the matter.

The fact that they voted Hamas into power on a platform promising more jobs, hospitals and education suggests that the people of Gaza may value economic growth over sentimentality. I have no idea.

Feel free to read between more non existent lines.

So UNWRA and the WHO say that the death and injury figures in Gaza are reliable, but Netanyahu and Biden say they aren’t

aid and health agencies on the ground being undermined by ****chop politicians

It’s not non existent though is it.

You know as well as me that Palestinian Territories being ‘absorbed’ into a foreign state won’t be acceptable to Palestinians

it might be convenient for Israel, but again the nub of this issue is that Palestine is being illegally occupied by Israel. Gaza was an open prison, and is now a death zone.

The withdrawal of food, medicine and water and the collective punishment of Gazans are war crimes.

The options you’re proposing are like choosing between a **** sandwich or vomit sandwich

why should it be down to Gazans to choose (which they won’t be allowed to anyway, either by Hamas or Israel) between what is the lesser of the two compromises ?

Where is Israel’s responsibility to end this bloodshed and work towards a proper equitable two state solution ?
