Just a couple of quick thoughts in general for me... First, people saying Burstow isn't getting the opportunities because Clarke, Roberts etc aren't playing as orthodox wingers and getting in to positions to cross the ball or play the through ball etc. Isn't this why we have training? Mowbray has his strikers now and has done so since the summer, so surely by now he should have drummed into the lads to mix their play up and play for the striker as well. We need to adapt our style of play now we're playing with a recognised striker and atm, we don't seem to be doing that. Second, I've never been able to wrap my head around people coming back with the 'who do you suggest as a replacement' argument. If people can see something isn't right, in any walk of life, then they can say so and not have to say how to correct it. It's like my engine management light coming on in the car and it not running right. I can see the problem and tell people it's there but I'm not a mechanic so therefore can't suggest how to 'fix' it! Like the mechanic, it's the clubs job and those who get paid to do that job to come up with the answer and fix it. Not aiming this at anyone or people in particular, just my 2 pence worth. I like Mowbray as well, he's done cracking for us but evolution is always needed and if a better option becomes available, then you need to go for it. Same for players, theirs always better players out there, no matter what team you are and if we can get one to come into the first 11 and replace someone who has done well, then get them in.
I feel like people want to jump to the defence of the lads because at the end of the day we’re all Sunderland fans and that’s fine - but when you lose 4 in 6 something needs to change and you change the players who are the weak links surely? I don’t know what these people want us to do if they don’t want us to change it. Just continue watching us lose?
Despite what Mowbray says, I think the club signed Seelt expecting him to partner Ballard but his injury held him back in pre season. I'd be chucking him in now, sink or swim
I think we've turned a corner now we've got Neil and Ekwah back, we've been borderline crippled without the two of them. I expect us to concede a lot less from now on as the pressure on the defence will be lifted.
Word on Patto. Mint again. I feel he could do with starting to blast the defence now and again. Just pulls off a class save and gets up and get on with it. I know he mite be a quiet lad, but you hear it all the time "Quiet gentleman off the pitch, mad man on it".
Teams are allowed to beat us. Just because we are Sunderland and have good players we don't have a right to win games Cardiff did us like a kipper - Hume's inexperience gives away a corner, defenders don't defend. 0-1 Boro game was ruined by the ref. Nuff said Stoke game was a shocker, Alex Neil had them set up well but ref did us again Leicester - best side in the league. No disgrace Other than the worries about strikers (hasn't been a problem when we win games) and our leaky defence there isn't too much to worry about. Wasn't that long ago we'd won 6 in 7 with the same players
Having Cirkin back gives us more solidity at FB I think. Wouldn't be against resting Hume and playing Huggins at RB
Agree with the Boro game being ruined by the ref. But in terms of the penalty shout last night we’ll have similar for and against us all season it’s just one of those, far too many are quick to point to that instead of pointing to the half dozen missed chances or the defence being picked apart so easily. We should be thinking if we don’t concede from a piss poor set piece we take a point, not the referee has an agenda so we lost. We dominate the ball most games so teams don’t tend to have a lot of chances but i’d like to see the numbers related to the conversion rate of the chances they actually put away because it has to be high. QPR barely had an attack all game and scored. Cardiff obviously scoring from a late corner then could’ve scored a few more in the last 5 minutes as we pushed for an equaliser. Rotherham similar to QPR one attack one goal. Ipswich somehow only scored 2 after fluffing a few 1 on 1s. Preston 2 shots on target 2 goals. Boro was a write off then last night the woodwork managed to keep it at 1. **** knows how Blackburn missed so many big chances against us either if they had their shooting boots on the first half an hour would’ve been a massacre. People will just look at the results of some of the games and because we’ve managed to do the business down the other end it takes the spotlight off the defence but it’s poor at the minute. If we were to go up and start playing against PL teams who’d have much more of the ball against us it would be a cricket score every week defending like this. Rant over I need a ****ing coffee
Yep. I don’t see what we have to lose, we’re on a loss streak nows the time to make changes. As prehab said though making O’nien captain was a strange call and makes you wonder if TM will ever drop him.
OK, thats true, but certain people get so fixated on an issue that they become so belligerent and one-sided in opinions. Nothing is black and white is it, o9 isn't big like Baath but I think we can all agree has other qualities. It's just some people completely ignore this and harp on about baath forgetting that he's hardly played for Norwich, has maybe not recovered from an injury and is coming towards the end of his career. It's just an easy way to attack Mowbray and the club.
Rather we play an actual centre back who we spent 2m on TBH mate. He is also a unit. We are a soft touch on set pieces so time for a change.
Only from those Fans, who despite all evidence to the contrary, think that a change of Manager is always beneficial. HOPEFULLY, our current owner and his team, have more sense. Let's get real. We lost 1-0, against the outstanding Side in this league, at the moment, and matched them in every respect except marksmanship where our more reliable players all had an off-day.
But how can you say it wouldn't be beneficial? You can't sit here and tell me Mowbray will take us up so what is the point in him staying? Absolutely pointless.
It's not a meltdown and it is more than just a loss to Leicester. Whinging about not having a striker to then either play without one or just ignore their strengths completely.
He defo has other qualities but first and foremost he needs to be able defend because if we continue conceding poor goals at the first opportunity everything else we do on the pitch is wasted unless we’re to somehow start scoring 3-4 goals every game.
