Needs fixing and soon. Teams know we are soft and when we let in the goals we did tonight and on Sat they're only going to double down on set pieces
This is what worries me. He was doing it against Ipswich first game of the season and still doing it now. 3 defeats in a row, 6 in total. Playing virtually the same 11 give or take, with 3 games in a week again, despite having a large squad gives me concerns there is no plan B.
Yeah I think we can put to bed the Keith Stroud hates Sunderland theory, he was totally even handed. Need to work on our shooting as you say, Mowbray said about keeping them down and you'll get deflections etc, sky them and you get nothing. I love Neil as a player but I don't love his shooting. The good news is I think he's capable of it but he gets overexcited, the older he gets the more accurate he'll be.
You aren’t overreacting he’s not a good CB. People are distracted by the fact he’s a nice lad and he’s good on the ball - which he should be because he’s a midfielder (or was for 90% of his career until last season). He was trying to wrestle vestergaard every set piece because he’s not big enough to mark him properly, done the same against Cardiff and we conceded. Call me old fashioned but your CB’s need to be big lads first and foremost then good on the ball, especially when the rest of your team are as frail in the air as ours. Having a CB who’s 5’10 at a stretch, which isn’t even the size of most wingers, trying to mark 6’4 CB’s on set pieces is just crackers. Liverpool have VVD 6’4, Konate 6’4 and Matip 6’5 City have Dias 6’3, Stones 6’3, Akanji 6’2, Gvardiol 6’1. Arsenal have Saliba 6’4 and Gabriel 6’3 Spurs have Van den Ven 6’4, dier 6’3, Romero 6’1. It’s not rocket science.
Never considered reserves games to be a barometer for 1st team abilities, They lack intensity. Thought he looked OK v Boro
You would like to think he would stand out though, like Adil did the game he played. But hey its 09's fault and he's not a centre half.
But he’s a young CB playing against other lads his age in games that are basically just for fitness what are you expecting him to do to stand out enough to show he should be in the first team? I’d argue a first team player making mistake after mistake is what should give the manager the ammunition to make the change, it’s not like we’re winning week in week out and not conceding. Playing alongside better quality players will bring the lad on leaps and bounds. O’nien wasn’t good enough in the midfield so he dropped to RB then to CB at the age of 26/27.. I don’t see how Seelt can really be worse if we give him a run of games he’s a natural CB who’s built like a CB.
Last time I checked it was a team game and Ballard, Hume, huggins and cirkin make as many mistakes. Yet they don't get endless posts about them being dropped. I've seen Danny Batth's name mentioned tonight, a proper centre half and my player of last season, but I believe we conceded goals last year with him in the team and where just as ****e at defending corners. I'm clearly wrong so let's throw a 21 year old Dutch lad into the championship who hadn't stood out in practice games as he's a natural centre half
You’re right other players do make mistakes, I’ve never once argued they don’t. But O’nien is barely taller than my missus and he’s trying to mark 6’4 blokes on set pieces and struggling. So do we sit back all season and continue to concede from set pieces because we’re scared to play a lad because he’s 21? At the age of 21 O’nien was playing in L2 as a 10. He’s a makeshift centre back and you’re making out that we’re replacing the best player on the pitch with an unproven child. I don’t see anyone complaining about Rigg or Bellingham and they’re both younger than Seelt, who by the way came through PSV’s academy.. he’s not some kid we’ve picked up playing 5 a side who looked alright. How are you ever going to improve the team if we don’t address the issues we have? We’ve lost 4 of the last 6 and 1 of our wins came against bottom of the league but let’s continue to play the same team..? I don’t get it?
