That's how it goes. Football fans are not objective. We are hurting and looking for people to blame. It's normal
How do you know it would have been one chance? He's an inside forward who mainly plays off the left, so yeah, I would have had him on the left ahead of Ba. For all the ball Roberts had he did very little with it. His need to take that extra touch, or do that extra bit of show boating was on show tonight.
I think it's mad he's a guaranteed starter. Arm band doesn't bother me. If Evans isn't coming back in to the team we need to sign a Championship Bastard in Jan to lead the team and take the arm band
And zonal marking was mentioned on this thread straight after the goal, and has been how we have lined up most of the season. Hobe didn't get off the floor, even from a standing start, you have to assume he is capable of jumping
It’s also illogical. If Mowbray brings the strikers who have no goals on, and we lose, he gets less flak! We played really well tonight. Really well, against a £80+m rated squad (Ileana no was 20 odd million on his own and they spent another £30m in the summer). Best side they’ve played according to their fans, not good enough according to ours!
We've been man to man at corners this season. Evidenced in o9 attempting to wrestle his man v Cardiff that lead to their goal. O9 was wrestling Verstergaard in the 2nd half too. I don't mean to single O9 out, but this is not Jobe's fault
I think we have to trust Mowbray on the striker front. He watches them in training and he'll know if their ready. If he's starting Burstow in front of them they obv mustn't be showing much.
It's just the pain of defeat. I like Burstow, I think he as plenty to offer but we aren't playing to his strengths - I'm genuinely struggling to think of a time we've played him in on goal, or crossed a ball for him to attack. Roberts is mega guilty of taking 2 or 3 extra touches when he should be putting the ball in.
Ah right, because it was 09's man Jobe doesn't have to jump or challenge. Brilliant, there was me thinking it was a team game
I'm baffled that anyone genuinely thinks Mogga is not playing the strikers to make a point. He clearly doesn't think they are good enough or a better option. He works with them every day and isn't shy in playing younger players so it's his opinion that they aren't ready. He may well be wrong but there is nothing malicious in his decision
That’ll look awesome to the youngsters. “Here Luke, you’ve been brilliant for us since signing, acted on and off the pitch like a leader, but we’re signing this new lad to replace you” He was marking his zone, not the man. It’s how we’ve literally played all season. I don’t like it, think it’s ****e personally, but it is how we set up. Jobe was terrible defensively fir their goal. Ball is dropping in his area and he needs to attack it
Whatever system we are using, the outcome is the same - weak as piss at corners. Lads I sit with have started referring the concession of a corner as a "penalty corner" Mowbray - as an ex-central defender - absolutely has to sort this out
Could be because he's got all the attributes that a captain needs. Leads by example, performs well consistently, liked and respected voice in the squad. One of the most senior players too. Matter of opinion but saying it's mad he's captain is pretty weird.
He need to sort it right out. Jesus. I sat with a proper friend tonight who is. A centre back and he lacked before it was taken. And no doubt. It happened. We have been terrible at defence.
So who would you put there? ,try out” one of the new lads (who Mowbray sees week in week out and hasn’t). Easy being a football manager when you are guessing or have a scapegoat you can pick on. Until you find out they’re worse and then backtrack. O’Nien did nothing wrong tonight, yet gets the blame for their goal. It’s not “his man”, it’s his zone. As I’ve said, I would prefer man to man marking, but we aren’t playing that. he also made an unbelievable tackle, which has been completely forgotten about of course
