13 months ago I struggled to get £650 credit back but managed in the end. Promised myself I would never get caught like that again so cancelled my DD. Since then I have sent in my readings at the end of each month, got told the amount I owe the next day and payed the following day. Last month they emailed me and said they have a better deal for me if I go back on DD. I agreed but told them any hassle and I will cancel straight away. They said £135 a month DD. The first month payment went out on Oct 1st.
    Received this email yesterday.

We’ve just checked your monthly DD and it needs to change, You are using an average of more than £42 a month which means your account is £456 behind at the moment from where it ought to be.

The quickest way to get your account back on track is with a one off payment of £456.36 on a credit or debit card (tap the button below) and by changing your monthly DD to £177.87.

    Make a payment

If you don't do this we'll change your monthly DD to £215.90, starting with your December payment.

Needless to say I cancelled my Dd straight away, Don’t want these parasites near my bank account.
I will be stuck back on a dearer tariff but bollocks to them.

Awful mate. They do what they want. I moved house July 2022 and went from DD to pay monthly with different provider. Touch wood its plodding along as it should although will struggle this winter again. Get your jumpers out kids.

There is no problem with paying as you go. Much simpler as long as you don’t mind paying more per unit.
The thieving gits still owe me £60 for no shows when they were going to fit me a smart meter ( 3/4 years ago now ) they were the ones that actually rang me to tell me they owed me it, but now they reckon they are EON Next so don’t have records for previous calls, after I told them they record all their messages.<grr>:emoticon-0121-angry

My Nana said the other day she is £1100 in credit, when she asked for £500 back they said they said they can't do that most they can give back is £400 back. They are still continuing to take the same dd amount though.

I told her that's a load of **** and out of principal I would be calling up and demanding the full lot back even if she then puts it to one side until the summer to make sure she doesn't end up in debit!

Cheeky bastards raking in the interest on god knows how much in over payments across their customers, of course they don't want to hand it back!

In the end I emailed their CEO and their complaint’s department. I received the money within 2/3 days I also stopped my DD payments and just pay the exact amount I owe each month, I’ve gone back to that again from today. I am expecting some quite ferocious e mails today from them <laugh>

What an industry it is when they can just take what they want out of you bank. again weak government regulation of an industry run by cowboys and charlatans. as for smart meters they should be thrown in the bin as these bastards just want all your personal info to be able to work out how much more they can charge. Over payments should be in your bank the same day it is a simple transaction so there rules about amounts etc is basic theft and if you phone and accuse them the money is transferred within an hour. They don't like to do it but they can.

Had a guy turn up over here to instal a new smart meter (no different to the one i have but they can read it through a bluetooth connection). Anyway, this dickhead says he can't change it as he has to isolate the power and there's a bush overhanging it that might be damp and as such it's a safety hazard. Wants me go give them a call when i've removed the bush and exposed the pit.

Needless to say that was 12 months ago and the bush is still there. ****'em, they can pay the guy to walk up my driveway and read the ****ing meter.

They still send someone round to check that you haven't fiddled with the meter anyway.

Eon are a disgrace. I asked a question and got absolute refusal to answer it - deflectory information given instead in a way a politician would be proud of . I persisted and was then lied to - when I told them that Ofgem had confirmed their story to be untrue - he had the gall to repeat his lie and then ignore me. I chased and another guy came back to say the first one wasn’t ignoring , that the supervisor had passed me on to him. He then gave me the same misinformation and lie, more than once and has also disappeared.
    I will keep on hassling,
As far as payment goes I submit a monthly reading on the 13th and that monthly amount is taken by DD at end of month. I keep a spreadsheet using weekly readings to see how bill is adding up over the month and to make sure they are doing it right.
If any use to anyone I’ll send you the spreadsheet

One of my first jobs was in a British Gas call centre. Reading this brought back the absolute **** I had to regurgitate to desperate pensioners on a daily basis.

I dont understand why I never heard of any one killing themselves workingnin that place, if I'd lasted more than 11 months without calling my boss a ****... I'm not sure what would he become of me.

I get texts , calls and emails every week telling me to get a smart meter. I’ve told them to stop harassing me until it’s law to have one. What’s the point in them anyway, I can tell them the readings on the app and I know where most of the power is used. No doubt it’s the friend of a Tory that makes and supplies them.

refused them every time, another 'no need for them' idea...as you say,we can all send a reading and i honestly do not like the fact that they can check every aspect of what i am using.

there is also the fact that when we had solar panels installed the lad told us when they are going all out the old type meter goes backwards (have not checked it out mind) so why would i get rid of the chance of slighlty lower bills?

if you want to go down the 'conspiracy theory' route, they could turn a smart meter/supply off at the flick of a switch any time they want... no more having to be in when they come to turn it off.

Had bother with these a few years ago. Moved to Octopus who are a different class. I get to determine my monthly payment and change it online anytime I want. Smart meter fitment was hassle free despite a 8 foot leylandii hedge 4 foot from the meter boxes

We were with Bulb until they went bust and passed us into Octopus who have been excellent.
Put in a smart meter which I wasn’t bothered in having but was no problem.
We’re about £500 in credit which we use to cover the winter months so not scared to put the heating on, our DD is at the level we’re happy with and all in all I can recommend Octopus.

    Cheers Cumbrian <ok>
My mates just told me he’s Octopus so we get £50 each when I sign. They will want £75 off me for packing in with them but I couldn’t care less if it gets me out of dealing with these parasites.

    Same.
Bulb were excellent, and Octopus the same.
    I would also recommend.

nooo i never checked it, i mean, if i did and saw it going backwards i would have a duty to inform them and to hand myself in at the local police station to confess my crime.
