Evening all. Another tough away game coming up on Wednesday night at Stoke and can't bloody wait but whilst I'm loving this thick & fast nature of the Championship it's imperative we get out of it this season. Gut feeling is we might just do it as well
Leeds United have been fined £40,000 after Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was pushed by a supporter during their Premier League game in May. The fan got into the technical area from the home end at Elland Road before being dragged away. The supporter received a lifetime ban for the incident, which happened in added time during the 2-2 draw. The Football Association has suspended £20,000 of the fine until the end of next season.
Don't tell brother Eire but the Championship is not very competitive down at the bottom with quite a few teams getting beat week in week out. Must be a right bastard for fans of those teams but I suppose they rejoice knowing that next season they'll probably be winning games again. Plus don't L1 teams get about 750K a season from SKY ? So what's not to like given the PL is such a horrible money driven abomination of a League
Wash yer mouth out. We’ve already won nearly as many games as the whole of last season. Why would anyone want promotion except to line the pockets of a bunch of overpaid golfers and basketball players. Beginning to think you might be a shareholder yourself. Norwich game for example. Last season we’d have been six down by half time instead of the joy of a fantastic comeback
I understand how you feel but if we don't go up this season or next then it's probably back to mid table Championship mediocrity for us and not able to compete with the likes of Luton, Sheff Utd, Burnley and Bournemouths of this world. What then? Drop down to league 1 again so we can be the big fish in a little pond?
Not at all. Continue to invest in youth system. Many more of them will make it in championship than pl. in fact almost none make it there. I find it far more satisfying seeing our young lads getting a go than the pl model of buying wannabes from Denmark etc who have never heard of the club before signing and for the most part, have no interest in it or the fans. Don't forget there are loads of teams who never make it to the pl but their hardcore of fans still get to enjoy their football regardless of level
Christmas period might be very cruel to Ipswich. Saturday 16th December CHAMPIONSHIP Ipswich Town12:30Norwich City Saturday 23rd December CHAMPIONSHIP Leeds United15:00Ipswich Town Tuesday 26th December CHAMPIONSHIP Ipswich Town15:00Leicester City
All the local youngsters get snapped up by the Manchester clubs so we have to go in to Europe and Scotland to poach those lads. They cost money and FFP becomes a reality next season. Wave goodbye to all our good players and we have to replace them with less proven players to reduce bills. That leads to a weaker team and more losses which mean you'll enjoy it less and less. Meanwhile the likes of Luton will come down and buy our best Championship players like we did to Swansea with Piroe. It makes them stronger and us weaker. Having a strong under 18s won't matter. We have already lost the 15 year old wonder kid playing in the u18s (forget his name) to Man City for a measly compensation of £750k. Deal has been done and will be completed in the coming months. In todays football you need the cash. The cash means PL football. You need PL cash to be competitive in the Championship. Historically we are a poorly run club and poorly run clubs can't thrive at this level. Edit...Finley Gorman is the young lad off to City.
Either way our best players will be gone next season whether we go up or not. If they’re good enough like Philips and rapha the big spenders will sign them. If we don’t go up they’ll still leave for lower pl teams as they won’t be seen as good enough. If we couldn’t keep Jo who was Leeds through and though no hope of keeping any of the quality ones
It's gutting they got him for that, looks a real prospect. We got more for George Swann , who you may ask, 18 or so yrs ago
It's all agreed between Gorman and City. The compensation needs to be sorted. The only hope is Leeds offer him the world between now and the compensation package being agreed. If we were in the PL we could afford to compete with City a bit more. With FFP we just have to bend over and the it.
If they want to go then i don't want them at our club. If the inly solution is to throw money at them then forget it. Once the lad dissappears into their system he will get peed off. City have a fantastic training set up with multi pitches and a second stadium but sign almost all their first teamers from elsewhere. They will never make money from their set up whereas we may break even by selling the likes of greenwood and joffy and promoting the likes of Summerville.
No we couldn't. City click their fingers and everyone runs to them regardless where they are playing. That's the reality of what football has become. And with the advent of social media clubs are alerted far earlier to the quality up and coming lads. A city scout could probably sit behind an iPad for his career
The idea is you get promoted and then try to win your mini League down at the bottom. This season in the PL it's already between; Everton Luton Burnley Bournemouth Sheff Utd. Now I get why you might not like that, but two of those teams will definitely stay up and some of us find that battle captivating and enthralling (when we're in it of course). For example the last day survival at Brentford was one of the best experiences as a Leeds fan in recent years and more than made up for the defeats during the course of the season. However my point was that it's also very similar in the Championship for the likes of Sheff Wed & Rotherham etc as they try to survive at first and then thrive as they build towards a better future. It's just the nature of football pyramid that sometimes you need time to adjust to the higher level before you can really become part of it.
