Interesting! They halve the ban if they "seek help" during the process so is that a 20 month ban halved or could he get away with 5 months? If 5 months he could be back training after Xmas/NY break and be back in time for the Champions League Final! Unless there is a decision shortly I'd start him tomorrow vs Dortmund!
How could we appeal? He wasn’t even playing for us when it happened. He could appeal to the Italian authorities regarding the offence or we could maybe appeal to FIFA that the ban shouldn’t apply to him outside Italy, as we shouldn’t be punished for something he did when not on our books.
If he get's a ban it'll be a world wide ban and no hope of us getting off the hook because he wasn't ours when it happened - best we can hope for is some type of insurance claim but not sure there will be insurance for being banned for drugs/betting etc. Best case scenario is there is some type of insurance claim we can make that'll cover the money for the time he's banned - say one year ban we'd get 1/5th of his transfer fee back (£11m approx) and maybe his wages/a portion of them covered. That's all the dream scenario though, insurance companies hate paying out and will use anything to get off the hook for paying out if they can and I'm sure they don't cover players banned for betting etc.
Player has said he won't take salary during the ban. Insurance never paying out on this, poor due dilligence by the club in my opinion.
This is much, much better. A way to go to get truly back on form, but it's a step in the right direction.
Appealing is usually used as a stalling tactic, teams don't tend to appeal because the outcome can be worst that the original decision!
