They won’t. Captain hindsight is going to see how fast life comes at him, if and when Labour get in. It’s easy in opposition to have all the answers, not so easy in the seat of power when it’s someone else who questions every move you make. I’m not sure Starmer has the minerals to be PM for long tbh.
When Liz Truss gained power and dropped a lot of the "tory" plans and forward thinking it took Labour just a matter of days to "reinvent their manifesto along the lines, and so called dropped items!, of those seemingly abandoned by the Conservatives! What a real pizzer when Liz got overthrown and it all went back to pre "Liz" and Labour was left with the Tories re establishing their manifesto!
In opposition you do have a hard task, all the good and needy things are obviously adopted by the .gov! so you have to try and come up with something extra or different. Last couple of GE's they get a whiff of train ticket holders not so say "we will ..." Students not happy .... so say we will ... " x y z" say we are not happy! so they say "we will! .... ! "
The big problem in this country now is food banks ... people dont have to budget!! where as a set amount was set against household bills including food, any surplus was a night out / a couple pints/ an affordable holiday .. people get the luxuries and free food ......
Please answer this, a neighbours [ not my street ] one child has just spent £125 on a pair of trainers [ or footwear thingies ] to keep up with siblings, parents work her part time, and they use a foodbank for majority of basic food stuff's .weekly Likely cost to average familly of 5 about £ 45 /50 ! Is that fair?

very short sighted!!!! if its ****e then after 5 years it will take another massive by the tory party to put it right again and the people will just see the tail end of the ****e whilst Labour again step into a well organised financial situation and set about destroying it again!
Christ if we’re relying on the Tory’s to put things right we will be in the ****e, all they ever do is under invest and run everything into the ground. Which costs more in the long run to correct. Look how bad everything is now, everything is on its knees.

2010 the biggest blackest hole in the fiscal set up ever .... all our assests sold off country on brink of being down graded to third world economy status!!! WHAT COULD BE WORSE!!!
Tories took loads of stick but stuck to their guns with austerity and we were in the black in side 10 years [ probably 9 ] Along came Covid ...along came the war in Ukraine ... a WORLD WIDE inflationary problem struck in 2021 .... politics went crazy with MP's BOTH PARTIES JOSTLING FOR POINTS AND POSITIONS!! and here we are now in a different worls of fiscal regimes that are slowly being laid to rest.
Labour does not want inflation sorted, if it is they will have a mountain to climb not a hill.

….. so the first thing that the Labour Party, if they come to power, will have to do is spend money on the infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads etc) that has been ignored for the past 13 years under the Tories.
It’s a cyclic thing - it always happens after a period of Tory rule - then they get accused of reckless spending, the electorate get fooled and vote Tory - and the whole cycle restarts over again…….

Economically how are labour going to change priorities? How are they going to invest? More tax? Greater spending v gdp? Windfall taxes? One or none?

Already the plans are in place to, and have already started to and delivered on the the things you mention all of them including an additional burden of realising the smart motorway errors and already addressing those. having driven over 100k miles on the continent 2 things spring to mind regular stopping points on major roads and very narrow hard shoulders if you drive anything other than a fiat 500!!!!! but quite a few wider points ... sometimes.
the fiscal budget is not what gets spent next week or for the next few months or even a year ... it is taking a problem say roads ... no lets say hospitals ............
build/ improve 50 hospitals = total cost circa £25bn then of course you have to find and train 50, 000+ staff along with supply chains and additional training facilities ... thats why it is a 10 year plan + Imagine build / improve 50 hospitals in 1 or 2 years then equip them and staff them inside a .gov term ....................... all the next .gov has to do for all those things you mention is continue the GOOD WORK! nothing complicated.
The unions, Labours bosses, have ensured turmoil and given their minions something to moan about to make them look good. all that has changed is that inflation has been stoked outside influences plus high wage demands needed because strikes added to inflation figures so a bigger number to bat against ... I, at present do not know who I would vote for! I am not a set in my ways staunch .. because my great great grandfather was a supporter person and vote that way irrespective, a slave to the past. I may not vote, I may vote for any other party ............. but one thing is certain after the 2010 hand over, and the antics of the past 3 or 4 years it wont be Labour ...............

Seriously we claim to be the 5th or 6th strongest economy in the WORLD and yet we have crumbling schools, roads riddled with potholes, trains that don’t run when it rains or snows - and can’t afford to finish a train line between Birmingham and Manchester. Rubbish only collected fortnightly etc etc.
We chuck £trillions at France to ignore loads of immigrants crossing the channel, yet can’t spend a few £million on improving our own processing capability to fast-track those who want to work so they can start paying taxes instead of costing.
Tory-owned PPI companies made £billions during the COVID crisis - blatant insider dealing - yet we can’t afford to pay nurses or teachers a wage that reflects their value to society. The Tories have been bleeding us dry for 13 years.
This bunch of twats have made so many mistakes it’s time for them to go.
Labour may be no better - but at least they’d be different - and their election would show the Tories that they can’t just continue to mismanage the country and still get voted in.
Good post, especially the PPI element, parasites, using the pandemic to line their pockets, they should be locked up and the keys thrown away.
Didn’t read all the post, so maybe missing the point, are you genuinely saying that the problem with low incomes is due to foodbanks ????, I get your point about trainers, but that’s missing the issue, as the 6th or whatever it is, largest economy we shouldn’t have people in a position that they have to use food banks full stop. The problem in this country is too much wealth is in the hands of too few people, the difficulty is how that is changed.
If you spent more time trying to resolve that issue and less worrying about how someone can buy expensive trainers for their kids whilst using food banks I’d might have read the whole of your post.
It’s a fine line between under investing and splurging money the country doesn’t have on things, which is exactly what Labour will do and we’ll end up paying over the odds salaries for the likes of rail workers where there are already 2 people for some jobs
As for the NHS, if they weren’t so wasteful with the billions they get then maybe it would be a sleeker and more fit for purpose service but no government has the will to make it happen
It is a fine line I agree, the trouble is if you don’t provide enough money services are starved of money and disintegrate or disappear altogether which is what the Tory’s do, it’s a false economy because it just costs even more in the long run to repair the damage. There are knock on affects too which also cost money. Lack of local services and local policing due to funding cuts just causes anti social behaviour and more costs to prisons etc and more crime in general. You have to look deeper.
And none are labour commitents. Economically labour are going to follow the same path to the tories.
