... I am starting to get a little jarred off with how easily a fairly well built lump like Grant Holt goes to ground like he's been shot through the head by a sniper's bullet at the first sign of physical contact. Early in the season - (Wigan or Stoke) ? Morison had a severe clash of heads but played on with an swollen eye the size of a goose egg. Today, Holt comes on after 68 minutes and goes to ground at least twice with minimal or no contact, trying to implore the ref to award a free kick. I passionately want NCFC to do well, but by fair means rather than foul, and to see Holt 'cry wolf' each time he gets a touch of the ball goes against the grain a little. Little Wes, etc can stay on his feet, so don't lumber the club with a bad reputation, Cap'n Holt, lest it come back to haunt us later in the season. Just my stance after today's game - great performance against a potential top four side, apart from that. Load your rifles, one and all
I completely agree with you Cromer but I guess that's no surprise! The ref Mr Dowd, was spot on in booking him for that blatant dive in the Arsenal box. He is a good player and he doesn't need to cheat does he?
I think the vast majority of free kicks and penalties that he's been awarded have been just and correct, but when you get the likes of Pulis and Colin shouting the odds, then referees are going to rule against him in a touch and go situation, and efforts like today's are going to compound the situation! I think the time has come to stay on his feet unless it's absolutely impossible! He has to keep off the radar for a while!
That one he tried on 89 mins was a corker, that`s what they do in this league though ..... Shall we dredge up the dubious penalties we conceded in the first few games??..
I've tweeted it already, simply because it's my point of view. And I washed my mouth out with Woodforde's Nelson's Revenge, thanx
WBfucking A got a penalty for a push not half as bad.****inrefs piss me off with there inconsistencies.
Nice to know that itâs more than one of you can actually recognise this about the biggest âheroâ (or as you Norwich types would pronounce it âheawoâ (with the appropriate camp, spotty lisp)). Congratulations â how long has it taken you? You evidently havenât noticed it in the rest of your team though. One of my biggest memories of the early season is of Holtâs strike partnerâs hugely theatrical dive attempt in the first ten minutes at Carrow Rd vs Stoke this season. Hysterical stuff! That wasnât long before Holt himself tried to get Woodgate sent off with a ludicrously camp dive involving much flailing of arms and legs not ten minutes later. The pub was in hysterics, and they were Man Utd fans in the main. A neutral venue, anyway. Try as you might to hide behind your dweeb image to protect you against accusations of nefarious activity, now youâre in the Premâ (I wonât mention the factor that ultimately got you there (cough ⦠cheating â¦. cough)) you lot are rightly becoming recognised for what you are, despite Lambertâs obvious talents at organising and motivating a team, plus plucking talent from lower leagues. And as for how you got to the premâ in the first place â if thereâs any justice one day youâll be bumped down to the conference, fined multi-millions and sued by every club you cheated out of possible promotion. And I will always be around to remind you of how you won promotion and got the income that has followed.
Dave or Thai, there's something wrong with the forum. It keeps dredging up old Jonah posts and repeating them as new ones.
Normally Holt doesn't cheat- he goes down easily in response to a minor foul. The FK he won for Pilkington against Villa was a classic example. A soft foul which was awarded because he went down. It would not have been awarded if he had stayed on his feet. I want to stay up so I want the goals we will get from him doing it. However, I think Holt dived today which is different because it is cheating.
I know what you mean but let's keep out of it for a while longer, he's heading for a heart attack or a stroke !
Too true! Wasn't a call for modding, just a gentle poke in Jonah's direction. I almost feel a little sorry for him...
This is going to sound strange but I think it was an accidental dive. I'm not denying it was a dive and a particularly unconvincing one at that. The way he charged towards Mertesacker and the way he fell makes me think he was expecting Mertesacker to clatter into the back of him so he set himself up to get hit. However Mertesacker could see what was coming and just stood still, so Holt ended up upending himself and looking a bit of a tool. The thing that bugs me most is at the start of the season some people were complaining our boys were being too honest and that we needed to get wise to the darker arts of the Premier League, now that we're doing the same as has been done to us, we're jumping on our own players. Yes, this was an awful looking dive, but no worse than Reid when we played West Brom or Ramires when we played Chelsea. They were both looking for pens and pulled it off a tad better than Holt managed today.
Back to the thread perhaps. Holtie has been a diver ever since he joined us. He got away with it all the time in League 1 because we were the big boys in the division and refs gave us the benefit. He continued in the Championship and got away with it a few times especially at home with the crowd baying at the ref. Now in the Prem, we are the interlopers and little fish and refs don't fear or respect us in the same way and defenders are just that much better and to be honest he is looking a fool. I love him to bits for what he has done for this club and he still gets my respect for his attitude and belief that he has in himself. I even think he is probably a better team player than Morison. But if he gets too much of a rep then he will never get a thing in the future.
