Good Morning. It's Friday 20th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Sky reschedule Leeds fixtures at short notice Sky Sports have forced Leeds’ visits to Rotherham United and Sunderland to be rescheduled so the games can be televised. Their trip to the New York Stadium has been bought forward 24 hours, so it can be streamed live (Friday November 24th at 8pm), whilst the hotly anticipated repeat of the 1973 FA Cup final is now Sky Sports' midweek special on Tuesday December 12 (at 8pm). This will mean thousands of Leeds fans will have to change their travelling plans at relatively short notice. The Championship fixture list has been out for months; Sky have had plenty of time to select their matches in advance but have now inconvenienced many, including those who live outside of Yorkshire or abroad. please log in to view this image Lancashire Police advise lunchtime KO for Blackburn visit Leeds trip across the Pennines to Ewood Park will now be a lunchtime kick-off on the advice of Lancashire Police. Traditionally, Blackburn Rovers have always allocated a generous amount of tickets to Whites fans, more than double that of regular teams. In 2018, almost 8000 travelling Leeds fans lifted the Roofe when Kemar's last minute goal ensured a 3-2 victory over their Lancashire neighbours. Wetherspoons in Southampton reported record receipts following the visit of Leeds earlier this season, and Lancashire Police are keen to ensure that there's still some ale left for the natives. please log in to view this image O'Leary's team were not successful Speaking on the Official Leeds podcast, former Leeds striker Michael Bridges recalled upsetting a Leeds fan during a recent encounter. The starstruck fan had approached Bridgey to let him know they they had loved watching him, and reminisced about the success of the Leeds team during his tenure at Elland Road. Bridges arrived at Elland Road in 1999 as a replacement for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbiank. His five year stay was blighted by injury, all starting when he broke his leg during the 0-0 draw at the Inonu Stadium in Istanbul, home of Besiktas. He dislocated his tibia and fibula, snapping three ligaments in the process. Experts told him, he would never play football again. He never gave up, and even though he was never quite the same player, went on to enjoy a further eleven years of football. Bridges told the fan that his biggest regret (besides his injury) was not winning silverware at Elland Road, and that the team should not be looked at, as being successful because of that. "I said 'mate, you've got to retract that, we weren't successful because we didn't win anything'. It's my biggest regret in football bar the injuries, we made two semi-finals in Europe and we finished third after being top in the Premiership at Christmas after we beat Derby County. "Eddie Gray's team have been successful in the past, there have been teams who have won things. We weren't successful, just an unbelievable group of footballers at the time with an unbelievable togetherness, but we weren't successful. "He got it in the end, he was really peed off when I said it. It's my biggest regret we never achieved what we should have done." Does Bridgey have a point? Should Leeds have been more successful during this time? Were they unlucky? What effect did the Galatasaray murders have on the team? What about the Bowyer / Woodgate Court case? There are fine margins in football. Ridsdale is looked upon as a pariah. Perhaps if these events hadn't have happened, we'd now be looking back with much fonder memories of our former Chairman? please log in to view this image
sly sports aren't interested in the fans simples....nowt wrong with supporting local hostelries on your travels and bridges has a point up to a point because i suppose success is ranked on silverware but all the same at the time that team was thrilling to witness with really exiting players and games, that magnificent 4-3 v victimpool was the epitome of exitement with a sublime 4 from the viduka
Morning all. Thank fook thats over.. Finally back to watching footy again from the mighty Leeds United! Reckon we may squeeze a win tomorrow, but who knows! Moving all these games is just a result of being a massive club and Sky Sports are very biased towards us for ad revenue. Wasnt the Director of Sky Sports a Leeds fan or someone of a similar level within Sky? Could have sworn I heard that last time we were in the Championship. I dont think Bridges has a point. Since the 1970's team, that would be arguably the second best performing era we've had in history.. The 1992 Side who won the last ever 1st Division was the 2nd best, with this team being the third imo. Beilsa's teams were brilliant as well, but on a lower level as such due to the league they were in.
Leeds fans are easy to upset if there are half a dozen of them having a beer together there will 6 opinions on every Leeds related topic. We should maybe get a video organised for Emu and Jammy to discuss Firpo, defending, the press and Marschball
Don't agree with Bridges. What exactly is success, winning silverware, qualifying for CL perhaps. Well we did the latter and only for the carry on of Bowyer and Woodgate we might have won it. It was fantastic stuff to watch under O'Leary and what I wouldn't give to have those times again
Good morning everyone I believe that back in the day it was a much more of a level playing field, top clubs of Europe, and the domestic leagues as well, were not separated by much, they relied on good old fashioned team work, and quality coaching with the odd sprinkling of talent, which made winning anything more of a challenge. These days it's all about money, if you want the champs/domestic league, simply buy it, by purchasing the best players around, the sad fact is these days the richer you are the more successful you will be.
I disagree, unless you’re going back many many years, the richer bigger clubs always won the most. Scum, Blackburn when Jack Walker when he threw money at it, Abramovich blew many away and now Man City. In fact we went bust trying to break into / keep up with them.
In fairness to SW I think Jack Walker was an exception to the rule back in those days. Then it was Sir John Hall using his money to put Newcastle back on the map but before Walker and Hall we had Wolves on the up and up because of the money from Smedlys who were as big as Heinz back in the day. Wasn’t until the Arabs and Russian oligarchs arrived that things got stupid
