No-one should have to guess who to vote for based on polling. Neither should they have to decide to stand down prior to the campaign. The Tory majority in Parliament can withstand many by-election losses in any case so it makes little difference.
There are plenty of LibDem and Green voters who would never vote Labour though.

Seriously, China, did you even try saying there was no humanitarian crisis and wait for the wholehearted agreement?

There will never be a fair electoral system until FPTP is ditched. Unfortunately both Tory or Labour are committed to it. (There is at least a chance that Labour may consider pursuing a move to PR)

At this stage of what is a Government disassembling itself and the country at large, giving them even a single PR boost of a By-election victory should be avoided. I totally agreed it's not right that your preferred choice gets no representation (notably Greens), but knowing that, I'd be looking to vote for the next best option. Certainly not look to assist the current administration in any shape or form.

So would I but there are many people who prefer LibDem, Tory, Labour in that order and many Tory voters who will protest vote for LibDem but will never switch to Labour. So despite who is second it might only be Libdem who can beat the Tories

Maybe so, but I'd still take the chance that in this particular Constituency, with what appears to be a decent candidate, Labour are better placed to win.
But either way, the in-fighting between Opposition parties should have been sorted out weeks ago, not taken to the 11th hour. <doh>

Possibly but I would prefer the Conservatives won with less than 50% rather than beating Labour in a straight fight

Any Tory defeat is good enough for me, however it's achieved.
Unfortunately, I think a combination of bad weather and public apathy and stupidity (in equal measure), linked to the centrist divisions will see them safely hold the seat. I hope I'm wrong...

    COVID Enquiry update...
This is the guy that Sunak and Johnson preferred to listen to instead of the UK specialists.
200,000 deaths later, it looks like the experts opinion of him as a ****wit were spot on!

Agreed but a Tory victory with 38% of the vote is better than one with 51% against either Labour or the LibDems with a free run.

The person calling him a ****wit was the then Chief Scientific advisor to the MoD since promoted to be Chief Scientific advisor to the government. She also referred to Rishi Sunak as Dr Death because of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

As if Sunak telling the warmonger Netanyahu that he 'wants Israel to win' wasn't undiplomatic enough....

Well unless one of these starts running, he is never going to catch the poor-person transport

Also, get the Warriors' soundtrack out of your opening theme, ancient TV show that was literally The Love Boat on rails

Well, that turned out ok! :emoticon-0148-yes:

Tories totally destroyed by Labour in both By-elections. With Uncle Festus the Tory Mid Beds candidate disappearing off so fast he looked like he had a train to catch! (Apparently, rumours are circulating about his conduct as Police & Crime Commissioner, so he may be in a rush to update his CV <laugh>)

Now we know why Fishy Rishy was so keen to go on an international stroll about. Not exactly a politician known for personal bravery.

    Perfect analogy.

Both losing Tories fled the stage without acknowledging their opponents victory. Yep, that's the behaviour that will convince the electorate that this is a 'new' Party....<doh>
