Now being reported that Tonali has admitted to Italian Prosecutors that he did bet on football matches including Milan games. https://www.getfootballnewsitaly.com/2023/sandro-tonali-admits-to-betting-on-milan-games/
That’s him knackered then. Would be nice if we could prove Milan knew about this and we could somehow annul the deal. I’d rather have the money back.
He's a young player with all the attributes to be an exceptional central midfielder for a top European side. If he gets a 7 or 12 month ban he can still train and improve the one main part of his game he needs to work on - the space between his ears. It's far better for his future than a bad injury would have been. If we stick with him, and we will, then he can see the support he gets and come back stronger with more of an affiliation with the club. Trippier was banned for similar and came back stronger, handy to have him around I'd say.
Indeed, let he without sin ..... Just watch the melee in January for Toney's signature,us included with a bit of luck!
They reckon his ban will be longer. He’s admitted to it. And to having an addiction. I can see us loaning Phillips I really can.
Normally when they admit to an addiction its to try and get sympathy and lower the ban. I wouldn't loan Phillips - he looked off the pace last night for England. We should claim 20% of the Tonali fee back from Milan as we are only getting him for 80% of the agreed contract time and also stop his salary for 1 year. These twats need to be taught that breaking the rules they sign up to has some serious consequences for them. If we cant stop his salary then get him to be the most expensive Platinum Club bogs cleaner ever until his suspension is up.
I am not sure we can blame MIlan. If they knew about it then fine we could sue them. When he signed our contract I am pretty sure there are questions and clauses for things like this. Like “are you aware of any issues which may be in breach of the contract etc”. Why should we suffer both on the pitch and financially for something that happened before he arrived. I also think that if he had an addiction then he would have bet here aswell.
I refuse to believe he'd just admit it and Italians are still crying so that'll be reporting fake news
What a mess. There's too much wild speculation surrounding this to know the truth. Come the verdict, we will know the facts. If he has bet on AC games that he was involved in then he deserves what's coming
Not sure if it's already been said......but now looks really suspicious why Milan let him go, and why we were the destination. I mean, CM wasn't the key position and the rest of the Summer we spent chasing/failing to get Maddison, then getting Barnes, Livramento and Hall.
TBH it doesn't look good - depending on the level of betting and the seriousness (if it has affected the outcome of any games) I think he's looking at a Toney level ban (8 months) to a year. Doubt anything will happen much before January so I can't see him being missing for to much before then and as others have said we have some players coming back from injury who'll be good cover. Personally can't see us panicking and going out and loaning dross like Phillips as Anderson seems to be covering reasonably well at present and Miley coming through behind him. Once we have Bruno, Joelinton, Willock, Longstaff, Anderson and Miley fit and firing we just need to make it through the suspension and get his fitness up in time for next season (where he'll be like a new signing) with a year acclimatizing under his belt! Unless there is a very good DM available I would stick to our guns and go with what we have while concentrating on a RW and CB.
Maybe this is why we signed him. Got him on the cheap, start to integrate him and get him used to the tactics, gets his ban and continues to train to the be tactics
I think CM was a problem position especially with the extra games - Longstaff, Willock, Joelinton and Bruno was never going to be enough and no one would have guessed Anderson would come through as he has done, not pulling up trees but looks comfortable - so a CM was needed. Barnes, another winger was needed imo but £70m on 2 young fullbacks seems a bit extravagant but we're rich as **** so who cares. Could see us go after another top prospect CM in Jan but it would need to be a top end player, not Phillips! With hindsight, Maddison or especially Szoblozai would have been preferable to a suspended Tonali but still think he's a good player just a bit of a dimwit off the pitch.
