Just so long as there's no golf or horse-racing on the telly whilst they're on duty in Stockley Park...
I think their punishment should be in line with a player's punishment for getting either a yellow or red card. Slight incompetence gets a one game stand down, more serious incompetence gets a three game stand down. For what the pair of them did, missing one game is a joke.
If a player got banned Everytime they made an error on the pitch you’d end up with every game being cancelled. Are we dropping Nunez every time he misses a goal for 1 game? What about when Alisson passes to opposition player and they score?
How about just sticking to reality and having proper punishment for incompetent officials whose decisions could have huge consequences.
I'm not bothered about seeing punishments (unless it can be proved to be a intentional **** up - in general, not just this instance), I'm more interested in putting practices in places to avoid the **** up happening again
They made a mistake and have probably had the toughest 3 weeks of their career with every single person questioning their ability and integrity for making a mistake. In addition they were dropped for a game, so I’m assuming didn’t get paid. How about we parade them through the streets shouting shame at them? That will get more people into wanting to be a referee. Couple people make a mistake. It’s done, the scrutiny and everything else has prob had a huge impact on their mental health and I’m surprised they haven’t needed more time off to get their head straight more than anything.
A deterrent can work well. If officials know that they face a stand down for incompetence, it may make them put more effort into doing things properly. What I was saying was that football has laws, some of which apply to the players, if they break them they pay the price. There are no laws governing the officials. PGMOL is a law unto itself. How do we get better officiating without introducing some measures to try and improve it. Letting officials know that sheer incompetence isn't acceptable would be a good start. So far there has been no willingness whatsoever on PGMOL's part to improve standards. Don't forget that some referees are earning up to £200,000 a year. England and Cook will both be on about £60k - £70k and in addition took home just shy of extra £1,000 each for that 90 minutes 'work". Not to mention the £20,000 fee for one game in Saudi that they had just returned from. If you're taking the pay, you've got to do the job.
Maguire and Phillips starting for England. Think dunks been Englands beat defender in the games he played in last few internationals and been a better defender in the league over last 2 years. Same with Guehi
Phillips lucky not to be sent off already. High foot which lucky didn’t make more contact on player. Think would have been yellow if wasn’t in first minute. Now a yellow card got sliding tackle
They didn't wave enough money. FSG are in this to make money, if Qatar offered enough, they would sell.... That said, they could probably buy Spurs or Everton for a heck of a lot less money, have a brand new stadium at either and be treated as saviors rather than invaders.
Southgate says he’s brought Phillips into this game as offers something different. So far he’s offered 2 fouls and passing the ball 5 yards backwards Everytime he gets it.
Pen England. Looked a close one, think just about a pen though. Defender doesn’t seem to get anything in the ball.
