I was listening to Frank Gardener this morning (his reporting is usually very one sided favouring U.S. actions but I think he made a good point this time). He said if this Israeli government was adept (which he concedes with Netanyahu they're unlikely to be), Israel with its foot on the neck of Gaza could now pause and offer an ultimatum to Hamas, which is to renounce terrorism, recognise the right for Israel to exist, and in return they agree to talks on a land for peace, Palestinian state together with the Palestinian authority. It's been done before of course, but with the current situation and with what could follow with Israel's attack on Gaza, the proposal has its best chance ever of actually being agreed.

Yeah, but that's a no go as Fatah and them seem to want to kill one another. Not to mention the geographical divide between Gaza and the West Bank just being ridiculous. If Hamas are defeated and Fatah is placed in charge of Gaza on the back of Israeli tanks... I mean, how does that look?
