Jacob Murphy starting for Newcastle in the Champion's League tonight, any chance we had an add-on clause for that?
Add-on or not, it's great to see Jacob playing at this top level. He's worked really hard for it; it didn't come on a plate. Well done to him.
I saw a picture of him when they were playing the champions league anthem before the match. He was grinning from ear to ear
A 2020 MFW article by Chris Sadler lists 9 players who at some time in their careers appeared for Norwich City and who also featured in a team contesting a European Cup/Champions League Final (including on the bench): Ryan Bertrand Thomas Helveg David Hodgson Martin O’Neill Chris Woods David Fairclough Harry Kane Moritz Leitner Peter Crouch Several others with City connections get a mention, but their connection with us was as staff, e.g Paul Lambert. If that many have featured in Finals, there must be numerous others who've played in the Competition. Jacob joins that number, but has some way to go before we can add his name to the above list of nine.
From the BBC today: "Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy was living the dream at AC Milan on Tuesday, grinning like a Cheshire cat and puffing out his cheeks as the Champions League anthem was being played. After a string of loan spells in the lower leagues, he was about to make his Champions League debut at 28. Asked about his reaction, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe replied: "I wouldn't say it was being overwhelmed, I'd say it was taking it all in. For a lot of our players, that would be a milestone in their career and I think Jacob was savouring the moment. "I thought he was magnificent for us last year and never let us down, he always contributed. I think the big thing for me is he is very, very reliable. You know what you're going to get from him. Defensively he's very good and he's an attacking threat as well. I thought he did a really good job for the team [in Milan]."
Meanwhile Josh Martin seems to have fallen on hard times: https://therealefl.co.uk/2023/10/03/portsmouth-manager-plays-down-former-premier-league-player-link/
yeah, I think getting any first team football will be good for him, anything now could salvage his career
Rowe now being touted as a possible exit in January. If we sell him, there is a strong chance of NCFC finishing no better than mid-table.
It's a site called Birmingham Live. Here's the relevant bit: "Reports this week claim that Villa are one of the clubs keeping an eye on the England youth international. He currently has just over 18 months remaining on his contract at Carrow Road, with the Canaries keen on extending that, talks about a new deal are said to be underway, but at an early stage." I think the original 'report' was a dubious rumour in the Daily Fail, so it doesn't amount to much.
As for the Rowe rumours, we're now told: "Norwich City ‘will not entertain’ any offers for Jonathan Rowe." https://the72.co.uk/2023/10/18/asto...blow-in-pursuit-of-prolific-championship-man/
Wagner on Knapper's plans for the January transfer window: “The truth is we had a meeting this week where we shared our thoughts. I understand and I get Ben's thoughts. And I agree with all of them - very interesting, exciting, exciting ideas and now we will see what he can deliver at the end of the window. For me personally, it was good to have this meeting. As I said, good ideas, exciting ideas and it will be interesting which of these ideas we then can deliver."
