The Romans did not build any roads as the roads were constructed by the legionnaires, many of whom were recruited from the Provinces. Most of the ‘Roman’ legions occupying Britannia were from Gaul (France/Belgium) and Rhineland (Germany). The Paddies did not become involved as paid labour until the end of the eighteenth century. Prior to that, locals were forced to provide free labour for local road building. The navvies of the nineteenth century were used more for canals and railways. Back in the old days they used to teach the basic history of Britain to kids at junior school but I guess they are too busy teaching them gender ideology today.

Turned bloody cold here the last couple of days and there was a howling gale last night and still exceedingly breezy today.
