I don’t know for sure. But my hunch would be, as I mentioned, that Isreal will want to clear Gaza out and annex it even further into their control. Under the auspice that ‘you can’t have a bunch of terrorists in control’

Yeah that's already been established as the end goal amongst us experts on here.

    It seems obvious.

If Israel take Gaza City then Palestinian power projection just plummets

During a fuel shortage you are in one of those rare situations where you think "I'm so glad I didn't trade in my mule for a Honda Civic."

The idea that Hamas can be eradicated by force of arms is itself ridiculous... Hamas is an ideology more than a finite group of people - just another iteration of Palestinian armed resistance to Isreali suppression and illegal occupation of Palestinian lands..

Yes Israel can go into Gaza and kill many armed Palestinians, some that will indeed be members of the armed wing of Hamas but many others will just be ordinary Gaza Palestinians combating an invasion by a foreign army ...

Will the final death toll solve the problem? ... no ****ing chance - it is more likely to exacerbate the problem, causing even greater numbers of Palestinian / arab boys to look for combat training and revenge ... under whatever arab acronym is flavour of the time when they become ready ...

Well, it has a built in perfect border. You can use the Wadi Gaza nature reserve as just a natural border. "Palestinian Gaza is to the south bordering Egypt. Israeli Gaza is to the north of the river."

Removing Hamas is an excuse. Israel would be exerting their control in what is illegally occupied territory regardless. You only have to look at the West Bank for evidence of that.

As for Fatah and Hamas being at odds with each other. That again has **** all to do with Israel’s illegal occupation. When Hamas and Fatah reached an agreement to work with each other to try and settle a land agreement with Israel, Israel blocked it saying they wouldn’t work with Hamas.

    The Israeli government behaves appallingly.
I do not buy any Israeli products (like I wouldn't buy any South African stuff back in the day) and think that the UN is a disgrace for continuously allow the Israeli government to flout international laws with impunity.

But I don't see how killing innocent civilians is OK. Hamas did not target military targets, it targeted young people partying.
That was ****ing stupid and really cruel IMHO.

Until Israeli politicians accept they need to negotiate thousands will continue to die.

So in the big picture the Israeli Government are to blame IMHO (along with other countries who allow them to break international laws).

    I do not support Hamas

Tbh the idea that just because Israel pulled out of Gaza means they're no longer occupied is very wrong.

Firstly Israel still has complete jurisdiction over Gaza. It's also maintained a complete land, sea, and air blockade of Gaza. They don't have the right for self-determination. Try living under that and calling yourself free. It's why the U.N. still regards it as illegally occupied.

This means very little in the overall problem in trying to establish a two state solution, nor does it take anything away from Hamas's actions or what they've done to the place. But when I hear ppl on the radio and TV saying that Israel somehow set the ppl of Gaza free by withdrawing troops, it's plainly wrong and wholly offensive to the ppl still living under their control.

A two state solution involves having a Palestinian state with a free and independent Gaza and West Bank. And that's most definitely not the case with either right now. Not even close.

And as you rightly point out International Law is and has been flagrantly ignored by Israel and it's backers for decades.

Occupied Palestine also has rights under international law to armed resistance from illegal occupation

Israel doesn't not have 'the right to defend itself' as an occupying force and use disproportionate use of force against the people it occupies. What it has is the right to protect it's citizens and it has a duty of care towards the people that are occupied.

What Hamas did on Saturday was barbaric. But it in no way justifies what Israel is doing to innocent Gazans right now.

Hamas' attack is being used as an excuse to raise Gaza to the ground, displace it's people and I suspect annex Gaza into Israeli control

This is the problem when Arsenal win a game before an international break, especially beating someone like Man City, they now think they can take on the world. :bandit:

BBC speaking with a mother in Lebanon, she encouraged her son to go and fight. He was killed within hours, she said she is proud of it, she would send 10 sons if she had too.

**** that, pick up a gun yourself ye silly bitch.

45 year old sending a 20 year old off too die. She sits in a tent, not a care in the world.

Absolutely this. I think it was Welshie earlier who was trying to say that because the West Bank is under PA control, Hamas is in conflict with Fatah and operates independently, that somehow negates the occupation in Gaza.

'An open prison' is how it's been described. As you point out, under complete jurisdiction from Israel, who control its borders, air space, energy supply and what goods and services come in and out. It is occupied.

As for a two state solution, it not only involves a Palestinian state with a free and independent Gaza and West bank, it also involves returning much of the land that was stolen during the 67 war and going back to the UN partition deal (but with sea ports and agricultural land equally divided)

All of this seems like pie in the sky right now as we witness Israel simply trying to crush Gaza

"Somehow negates the occupation of Gaza." You have a weird ability to kinda read something, which I presume is because you skim through everything and then arrive at a different point which only fits your extremely one sided narrative.

The bolded bit there, is absolutely not true, the fact that 300,000 soldiers will be going in to fight 30,000 trained and armed soldiers capable of using long range weaponry is demonstration enough that the Gaza Strip is not under complete Israeli jurisdiction. It's just a plainly false statement. The West Bank is under complete Israeli Jurisdiction. you will make note of the different forms of fighting in those territories. One is an armed uprising fighting soldiers and police in the streets.

The other is a full scale war.

There is a difference between the Gaza Strip and Hamas being significantly weaker than Israel and Gaza and Hamas being under complete Israeli jurisdiction.

That is why the quotes all state, Israel have a right to "defend itself from Hamas" not the geographical area or wider population of Gaza.

Does any of this excuse the bombings, soon invasion and destruction of the entire ****ing place, then obvious occupation that is too come? No.

But that doesn't just change the obvious situation on the ground to fit some random narratives being thrown around in anger.

According to the PA, Gaza is under occupation. It's occupied by Hamas.
