According to the BBC the Red Cross and UN convoys are heading south. The UN have confirmed that they have been ordered to begin evacuating refugee camps too; the UN has said this evacuation order is impossible and should be withdrawn.

People in North Gaza have been pictured packing up belongings and making their way.

I see no way how it can be possible that the main hospital can be evacuated.

How can the city be evacuated whilst Israel continue bombing it?

Hamas have called for people to not leave, but Hamas like them as human shields, so that is an obvious statement. As Israeli bombs turn the city to rubble, Hamas described the evacuation order as "propaganda."

As I have said, this is akin to Ethnic cleansing

They want to wipe these people off the face of the Earth and they are using complete nonsensical rhetoric to try and justify the slaughter of innocent people.

Like impoverished kids and women should have stood up to Hamas and not allowed them to take control, or 'you bombed Dresden, so we're gonna flatten Gaza'.

So now you deserve to die. Men, women, children, the elderly, disabled, all of them.

The US and the West are equally as culpable, as they have given Israel the green light to do it, and they are the ones supplying them with the weapons.

With regards to Hamas, amongst all of the sabre rattling, and likening them to being worse than ISIS, 10x worse than 9/11, making parallels with the Holocaust....

An illegally occupied country has the right to armed resistance.

Israel does not have a right to self-defence for its occupation

Israel's "right to defend itself" is invoked constantly by its supporters, but international law says Israel cannot simultaneously occupy Palestinian land and attack it as a “foreign” threat, or treat those resisting as enemy combatants.

"Israel does not have the right to defend itself in terms of the West Bank and Gaza. It has the right to protect its citizens, but it does not have the right to use overwhelming military force against people under its occupation."

“A state cannot simultaneously exercise control over territory it occupies and militarily attack that territory on the claim that it is ‘foreign’ and poses an exogenous national security threat. In doing precisely that, Israel is asserting rights that may be consistent with colonial domination but simply do not exist under international law.”

"While Israel’s apologists like to characterize Israel-Palestine as a war, it is not. In the West Bank and Gaza it is an occupation. In an occupation, the occupied people have a right to resist, including armed resistance, although doing so via arms means those individuals participating are combatants and not protected civilians."

Going to make a counter argument because discussion is good but in no way am I making excuses for Israel.

This only works if you follow the party time from the Palestinian Authority and not the actual situation on the ground. I am startled to see that on most sites and in most discussions that are heavily pro-Palestine, you see people make the suggestion that the Palestinian Authority is a fully functioning government, Fatah is simply the majority party and that government of course exerts control over Gaza, as the Oslo Accords said they should in the 90s. None of these things are true.

The Palestinian Authority is for all intense and purposes in a state of civil war, Hamas took control of Gaza forcefully in 2006 and since then the Fatah majority government of the Palestinian Authority has exerted no control over that region. While the West Bank is certainly under PA control and therefore under occupation the situation in Gaza is completely different.

It has been under the direct control of an enemy force to both the PA and wider international community for many years, the Israeli government has not had boots on the ground within the limits of Gaza and has not exerted checkpoints within the territory, Hamas is heavily armed and capable of hitting targets with missiles.

So, to now conveniantly suggest that Gaza is also under some form of occupation day in day out like we see in the West Bank is for the birds.

It's no doubt whatsoever in my mind that if you pulled every single Israeli out, gave Palestine 10 years to sort itself out and everything calmed down, you would see a Palestinian civil war in absolutely no time, Hamas, Gaza and the West Bank are not a single entity.

Just my thoughts, but in truth none of this has any real bearing on the situation on the ground

Don't understand Egypt in all this.

The Sinai Peninsula is ****ing empty and a UN camp could be set up to refuge these people, even just temporarily.

Yet Egypt is staunchly against allowing people from Gaza entry.

Three UK Jewish schools closed today, kids being advised not to wear their uniforms. Is this what we call multiculturalism in the UK, over a war that is thousands of miles away, as I'm often reminded.

Flight home got cancelled so I'll probably be here for at least another week or so.

I find myself walking around in a daze. Just cannot believe this has happened and at the same time, I can. Decades of neglect of the situation from all concerned, including the international community, has led us to this point.

Israel has to remove Hamas. It should have done so in 2006 after the disengagement from Gaza was repaid with rockets and the kidnapping of Gilad Shalit. That was just a small taste of what was to come.

In the years since, Hamas has diverted hundreds of millions in international aid to construct a state of the art network of 500km of tunnels, many as deep as 40m below the ground.

In that time, it didn't construct a single public bomb shelter for the people it supposedly represents and defends. And now it has brought Judgement Day upon them.

What Israel is about to do and the cost it brings is unthinkable. But so is a future in which 2 million civilians live under a regime that couldn't give a **** about them, backed and funded, used as puppets by a regime (Iran) that openly calls Arab Muslims illiterate peasants and also who equally couldn't give a **** about the people of Gaza.

The entire story needs to be reset and started again.

    Hamas out.
    Abbas out.
    The Ayatollahs out.
    Netanyahu out.

How did it come to this?

The Iranians are happy as a pig in **** watching all this. It's absolutely a dream scenario. Israel get a bloodied nose and then as an encore they get to watch Arabs get blown to smithereens.

Perhaps they should convert because apparently Christmas has come early for the Iranians.

Not wading through most of the horse manure posted on this thread but this is a brilliant post.

Hamas and Fatah only hate Israel more than they hate eachother. Same for Sunni and Shiite Muslims.

Take Israel away, the problem isn't solved. You'll just have the Saudis and Iranians fighting over control of the newly 'liberated' land, with civil war almost inevitable.

    So many people misunderstand this.
