So i've learned from that if I go to Israel I need to learn two languages, I think I'll start with English first but yeah I know what you mean about the build, does sound a bit weird to be fair.
Publicly they can do that though. That doesn't matter. The main thing is what really matters which is what you agree diplomatically and with as few ppl as possible. Unlike Trump who moved the capital to Jerusalem the fckwit and claimed the only option was a one state solution There are of course problems. Any Israeli or Palestinian leader will have to take the deal back to their ppl. The Knesset is fcked, you have an extremist right wing coalition currently but that's not to say it will always be like that. For Palestinians it will mean convincing their ppl that certain concessions will need to be made e.g. the right of return for refugees.
Likud is an ultra nationalist party. The people of Israel will need to realise that peace will only come if they vote moderates into power who can negotiate and make concessions. The danger in the US is that Trump might actually get back into power and **** things up in his own unique and bumbling way. For Palestine, they need assurances that they will be given soveriegn rights to self determination But all of this starts with diplomats who can engineer a peace process, perversely that might come if Hezbollah are dragged into this and the wider middle east and Iran have to start making decisions. Nobody wants all out war in the middle east, not even Israel.
Btw the difference between countries in the middle-east is mainly influenced by money. And Conflict within their land. Israel, Dubai, Saudi, Qatar all are like anything you'll find in the west. Yeh they might dress and speak differently but why the fck shouldn't they. My dad when he was young free and single spent time in Beirut in the 50's and told me years ago it was like the French Riviera. You couldn't tell it apart. Decadent. Then conflict, bitter wars and it's fcked. (I reckon he may have enjoyed himself a bit too much back then )
I used to go out with a half Iranian girl. Her mum moved here during the Islamic revolution in 1979. I used to speak to her about life in Tehran before the revolution and she said it was like London in the 60's. Sexual liberation, a thriving fashion and creative arts scene, women had important jobs and roles in society. Then it all changed.
Those horrid plastic places can **** right off. Speaking of Dubai and places like that I really want to visit Jordan & Lebanon tbh, seem like a genuine cultural experience. Tbh, most of the time, Israel seems like it would a really top place to visit.
Tbf mate Likud actually isn't. Well at least it wasn't. It was the party that was willing to withdraw unilaterally from the occupied territories. Although the borders they were deciding were no way acceptable, at least they showed they were open to the idea. This is why I think it's possible. Appreciate the make up of the party's a little different now but I think there are enough ppl in Israel and the party still who want to make it happen.
In its current incarnation it is, but that might have more to do with the people like Netanyahu who head it up right now.
Israel have been cruel, rough and evil about it but you cannot deny the cunning. Every single time theirs a lull in negotiations they flood in "settlers" which just absolutely moody the water. Now, Israel can enter talks and say "yes, well, there's half a million Israeli's in that area!"
Agreed, especially Dubai. Also agree about Israel. And I'd add the West Bank is great culturally. Syria 20 years ago was beautiful as well. There was so much to experience there. It's fcked now of course. Just goes to show how screwed up the world is.
I sometimes wonder whether a one state solution could work? Ignoring all the problems of actually making it happen. Would it work if it was done?
There are some really good, honest journalists out there reporting on the middle-east. Gregg Carlstrom is one. Anything he reports is worth listening to.
Don't think anybody has 'supported' terrorist attacks ... but you can't ignore history and suggest that this all just kicked off last weekend ... this can be directly traced back to Israeli illegal (under International law) occupation of designated Palestinian lands ...
