Good news for the people of Clifton South, Nottingham, they're included in the reallocation of HS2 funding. That nice Mr Sunak is sending a huge amount to build a tram line into the city. Happily, for the residents, that line was put into operation nearly a decade ago, so they people of Clifton can just divvy up the cash between them <laugh>

Well the Labour Party are saying what they are going to do, don’t know where all the extra nhs staff are coming from seeing as they are over run now, also Raynor, <doh> we are going to force building companies to build new affordable homes, my mate owns a building company who used to build these homes for councils until the homes became that unaffordable to build them with the extra’s the council wanted for no extra money. Anyway he ditched them, now they are lucky to get a quote off anybody unless what they are asking for becomes realistic, but Angela is going to force them <laugh> what a div.

You couldn't make it up... But Rishi and the Tories can, and did. Along with loads of other lies.

Affordable housing is definitely needed and the lack of it is a massive problem but I do agree that forcing companies to build more of this type of home is problematic.

I thought that all new build estates hd to have a percentage of affordable housing anyway? Might just be an increase in that.

I’ll wait and see how this will be planned before writing it off though.

Completely removed from the real world.

'hey you fascist corporate bastard, we're going to tax you to death because you've worked to make money and that's evil. While we're on, is there any chance you can do us houses at mate's rates?'

This sounds like you have listened to what starmer has to say, and I can't understand why anybody can listen to him . . . . he looks and sounds slimy & untrustworthy (the same as most Cons), and I can't listen to him :emoticon-0145-shake
Much like ficko Raynor who can't even be bothered to speak properly, which is so unprofessional and shows that she has no respect whatsoever for Joe Public, who she'll want to vote for her <doh>

I think it already is, it’s the add ins after you’ve had your offer accepted that is the problem, the last one he quoted for in Leyland they asked him to build a Childrens play ground and the access roundabout into the estate from the main road,
( at no extra cost ) he politely withdrew his quote and hasn’t quoted for a job since. Yet Raynor is going to force them to build houses. <laugh><doh>

And as with all of the messes that are now unravelling we can thank Thatcher for this. Allowing councils to sell housing stock to tenants, but ringfencing the money received so that it could not be used to build other houses to replace them. This in turn created a shortage of council/social housing which then inflated the price of private renting. Almost as if it was done on purpose :emoticon-0102-bigsm

The problem as I see it is Labour dont remember how difficult things can be to get done. Saying you will force private companies to do something is stupid and not in their gift. It makes you worry about what they think they can do. I remember the last labour government and all the promises they made that they didnt keep. The tories have done the same. Starmer made plenty of promises when he stood to be leader, most now gone. It isnt so much they fail to stick to pledges or policy that bothers me, after all times change very quickly and if our politicians didnt change their minds we would be much worse off. The problem I have will all politicians is they can trot out any old soundbite and rarely be questioned. I would confidently predict Labour will be in power in about 12 months time, and in 36 months time they will have changed little, have dropped key policies and be pointing at the tories saying it is still their fault. For the record I like the idea of more affordable houses, but saying you can force it gives you no credibility at all.

Everyone should like the idea of affordable housing but I believe they need their own estates so they can be used properly to help you move up the ladder when you are first starting out.

….. and when built should be for owner occupiers ( also when sold on in the future) only and stop the cash rich property companies and private landlords from snapping them up , making them forever off the market

We have quite a few in our village built with that criteria, takes about 3/5 years before they are rented out by landlords. Whole system is a load of s hite. That’s definitely something labour can put right when they get in.

I think some of what you allude to there is part of the problem. There is an expectation in this country that you 'move up the housing ladder', you're almost a failure if you don't. This drives up demand for the three and four bedroom detached houses that developers love these days.

Some people are happy staying put, some don't even want to buy and are happy renting. I've lived in the first house I bought for nigh on 30 years. No regrets, no sense of missed opportunity.

I was more thinking if you’re living in a 1 bedroom house that you are perfectly happy in and then kids come along you need a bigger house. If none come along stay where you are and be happy<ok>

I have to say I was a bit impressed with Streeting today and I never thought I would say that. But credit to him for sticking to the smoking policy of the tories. It is a simple step, based on common sense, and to see it not politicized is a positive thing.

His ton of bricks nonsense was a bit more typical, but I am putting that down to the state of politics. At least he has shown a willingness to commit to common sense policies.

Is that because she has a regional accent or a speech difficulty ? Fair enough not to after with her but that’s a bit low

COVID Commissioner sounds like a canny idea.

Be interesting to see how it would work in practice - is it just too expensive to chase those who basically defrauded the government out of money? Were the contracts written so hastily that there's no way to recoup the money if what was paid for didn't materialize?

You could claim none of them respect us if their diction is what counts ...

... Priti Patel was laughable when she was speakin' and Boris never finished one untruthful sentence before starting on the next one.

TBH I'd rather have a politician with a regional accent than one who lies every time they open their mouth <laugh>

She is short tongued (has a lisp) and can't pronounce her S's properly. Not really her fault.
