Good Morning. It's Monday 9th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Whites see off Robins to consolidate play off spot

Leeds kept their unbeaten home record intact at the weekend, with a hard fought victory over play off hopefuls Bristol City.

The Robins have one of the best away records in the Championship, but were no match for the Whites, who spent large chunks of the game camped out in Max O'Leary's penalty area. For all their dominance, they only scored twice, yet carved out twenty-one shot at goal.

Leeds took the lead on 37 minutes. Kamara robbed Knight of possession, deep within the Bristol City penalty area, allowing Rutter to collect the loose ball, and roll it across their 12 yard line. The ball avoided a sea of City players before falling nicely for James, who tucked it away from close distance at the far post.

The visitors equalised against the run of play, deep in first half stoppage time. Naismith found himself unmarked at the far post, allowing him to nod in Gardner-Hickman's corner unchallenged from close range.

Leeds continued to press in the second half, and were eventually rewarded for their dominance, when Joel Piroe's pinpoint accuracy from the edge of the area beat O'Leary at his near post, after good work from Kamara. Farke's side continued to waste opportunities, though in truth, the visitors never looked like scoring a second.

    Farke bemoans missed chances

During his post match presser, Daniel Farke bemoaned that the amount of chances and quality of chances that Leeds missed was unbelievable. They carved out twenty-one shots at goal, eight on target, seven wayward, and six efforts blocked.

Visiting shot stopper Max O'Leary made six saves of note, whereas Meslier was untroubled. Throughout the 90 minutes, Leeds lost possession 143 times, and although marginally better than Nigel Pearson's men (by 12) must learn to keep the ball better; though saying that, Leeds still had a respectable 80% pass rate.

The gaffer was pleased at the way his team reacted to the equaliser, but could have made their lives a lot easier had they put the game to bed in the first half:-

"The game should've been done and buried at half-time. The amount of chances and quality of chances that we missed was unbelievable. "We conceded a sucker-punch but well done to the lads for how they reacted. They were not annoyed and we did really well in the second half to go back in front.

"Then, again, it was the same story with an unbelievable amount of chances, and if you don't bury the game, the last 15 minutes are always a bit wild". "So I'm pretty happy with the performance and the three points. We could have made our lives much easier because the goal difference should have been much better."

    Farke's masterstroke at right back

After the game, Bristol City Assistant boss Curtis Fleming admitted that Daniel Farke's decision to switch Archie Gray to an unfamiliar right-back role confused them. The Robins have had plenty of success this season carving out opportunities from wide positions, and due to their pace, Ayling was not the answer.

Fleming thought his side were unlucky, and deserved something from the game, blindly claiming the Bristolians matched Leeds for match them for 97 minutes:-

"Yeah, we weren't sure even when the team came in," "we probably thought Ampadu would probably go to right back but Gray played there and we didn't think they'd disjointed it.

"We thought Ampadu was a bit more experienced and might play there but Gray did and again, I think we've worked on switching play against him and I don't think we probably asked him as many questions as we could have, the young lad but he stuck at it and did well I think that was down to us."

“When you come away to Leeds and you match them for 96 minutes, 97 minutes and come out of it with nothing, you're still a bit disappointed,” “No doubt we had a couple of chances but we felt like it was a bit of a lost chance today".

Morning all. I think this might be the start of the easing out of the team for Luke Ayling.

    Morning all

The other week when we played Byram and Shackleton it seemed a bit strange, then the urgency to sign a RB in the summer when we had Ayling and Drameh, I agree with LeedsofLondon this seems like the end of the road for Ayling.

Spence is expected back after the International break, when he returns along with Gnonto we are going to have some great attacking options

Time for Ayling, Cooper, Bamford and Dallas to disappear and should have been moved 2 summers ago. Even when fit they add nothing. Harsh yes, but a reality. Djed Spence still to walk into this team and has anyone missed Gnonto?

Agreed but Id be inclined to give Dallas a chance and another year. We owe him that.

    Morning all,

Another 3 points on the board from a game where I don't think we ever liked under any real threat from Bristol who have been decent this season.

    Good afternoon all
Great !!! another three points, so looking forward to Spence returning, we are looking good, a couple of poorish performances (Southampton excluded) and taking the points, not sure that would have happened in our recent past. Farke has a record of really coming good in the second half of the season, so to me doing better than i expected at this stage, so on that premise the best is yet to come, and from what i have seen i really believe that.
Look out auto promotion place, here come Leeds.

I’m hoping Ipswich start dropping points as they do concede a lot of goals. They score quite a few that said.

Agreed and even though Dallas is way over 30 you should be able to knock a couple of years from that as he has had a very long break. Not sure if he’ll ever get back to what he was but does deserve a chance. We said that about the other fell though, Foreshaw

They will it's a long season and injuries will disrupt them at some point. Our bench is really good for this league. As long as we win we don't need to score lots of goals.

Not sure I agree with this. I mean I do if he is going to get back to what he was but the club have been paying his wages for the whole time he’s been out so time to let go if he won’t.

Paid him prem wages for over a year too. He must be minted so why give him more. I really think he needs to drop down a league and that's if he ever gets fit (which i doubt).

At the risk of sounding callous. No room for sentiment in football. Dallas has been paid a fortune to be in in rehab. If he's back fit, and the sports performance team think he's truly able to contribute going forward then offer an extension. If not....

Ayling/cooper/dallas should all be gone end of the season. Oh and hopefully Bamford with his stupidly long contract.
