Need a new goalkeeper two bad performances from max this week. Weimann has had his day-been a good servant did nothing when he came in.
Grand daughters Birthday so missed all of it....at least it wasn't a thrashing...Good job we got the points at Rotherham
on the button no shame in losing to a great team -don’t mind losing when we gave them a game. Leicester and Leeds by far the best sides in the championship and we gave them both a game.
I’m torn, yes Leicester and Leeds have a massive advantage over us due to the gulf in financial factors, but we can’t keep using that as an excuse, if we want success we have to change our attitude of being happy with losing as long as we’ve given them a game. The mere fact they’re able to spend more on players etc puts an added pressure on them to beat teams like us, we need to exploit that pressure and turn it back on them. We are too quick to accept our fate, as a fan base as well as the players.
It may not last the entire season but you only have to look at what Ipswich have achieved in their first 11 games 9 wins a draw and a single defeat, and they score goals for fun
It’s a mental thing, instead of thinking we’ll do well to get a point from these games, something I’m guilty of as well, we need to much more positive, actually believe if we stick to our game plan we can win, expect to win, don’t tolerate anything else. If we do lose, then be upset, be disappointed, don’t accept defeat. We keep being told we recruit by attitude, we want winners, if that’s the case why are we accepting defeat?.
I haven't been following Ipswich but I wonder how much money spent and how many signings they have made over the last few windows, interesting to see if there is a repeat of history.
Leaving aside your 'wum' you have unwittingly posed a a question. What is the difference of Ashton at Ipswich as opposed to his time at AG ? Have Ipswich signed even more players than '65'? Nevertheless I believe there is a case, quite possibly, that the only difference is Lee Johnson. Do you, or the usual suspects, have a different answer ?
Possibly, they also have momentum from last seasons promotion, which can count for a lot. It's still quite early tbh, even Dean Holden won his first four games at the start of his season in charge of City, but it didn't last. Ipswich do seem to have a lot of attacking flair, with a certain Wes Burns in their team as well.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ipswich-town/transfers/verein/677 Ipswich transfer for 23/24 season. I would think Ashton still likes to wheel and deal.
Looking back to Ashton’s time with us, I saw (rightly or wrongly) Ashton as being responsible for all the buying and selling - all the 60+ players coming in and the successive selling of the team captains. I would also assume that wages would have been negotiated by Ashton. What went on on the pitch was down to LJ and he succeeded and/or failed from the dugout, using the players given to him by Ashton. If Ashton is doing the same at Ipswich - ‘scattergun’ buying then selling key players - then Ipswich are very lucky that the gamble has started well. Perhaps having Peter Reid lurking in the background as a ‘managerial advisor’ has also had an impact?
Interesting that Ipswich have spent 3.5m (looks like they are using Euros on this website), and have a total market value of 18.9m for this seasons arrivals and we have spent 5.4m, with a market value of 16.5m for this seasons arrivals.... I'm assuming this will fluctuate based on a clubs league position at any given time, but, again, we don't seem to be getting best value in terms of league position for our purchases, compared to other similar sized clubs/budgets. Is that the manager, who knows, but 3 on the trot (LJ,DH and now NP) not getting a good return on investment. Maybe, it's our recruitment team that are off the mark?
