It's still early days, the main thing is we aren't that far behind, beat Palace and it is a canny start to the season all in with the fixtures we've had.
Newcastle need to win the next 4 to get back in the mix and I don't think they can while playing so many games.. Newcastle are a top 8 side not as good as people think. I mean come on look at some of the names howes fielding.
It sounds like the free kick for our second was soft, are we starting to get some decisions going our way for once? About bloody time.
BTW I think if arsenal and Tottenham land top 4 they'll be sucking perezs balls again to start the super league. The last two clubs to pull out... they hung in there begging roman and Qatar not to pull out.
I don't think the top clubs are as thin... ultimately newcastle will end to put a string of wins together over the next 4 or 5 fixtures or they'll be cut adrift. Newcastle just don't quite have enough to beat the big clubs imo..
Outside of Man City, Arsenal and possibly Liverpool, I reckon most of the rest are in the same situation as us Take 6 players out of every other 1st 11 and they'd struggle
Indeed but Newcastle had the luxury of having most their key players fit all last season, so it's not a certainty they'll get them. Newcastle are already having difficulties the others aren't and they're already falling away.
Take Rodri out of City and they’re not the same. If we had Gordon, Willock, etc, today we win 5-1 again.
I think we're facing one of those seasons where they'll never get all our best players on the pitch. Last season was the opposite ... everything went for Newcastle including the rare bad season from Liverpool Tottenham and Chelsea. **** top 4 off and aim for a cup.
We’re doing pretty well. I mean we were just so stupid vs Liverpool where a simple Barnes pass puts us 2-0 up, and today the post from Isak. Add 5 points and we’re on 18, having never really had a chance to play a consistent team. I think we’ll spend again in Jan and third or fourth is still possible. Spurs have had no injuries of note and a lot of luck. Chelsea, Man U nowt special.
All ifs buts and maybes but ultimately Newcastle are tracking way off top 4 pace. They need another 3 years to compete for that again I feel.
Top 8 and good cup runs domestically and in the champions league and I think that will be a good season, lots more travelling and games this year with a small squad but it's all progress.
Incredible to me that clubs these days are happy with a point against us at their home. We have come that far
Not necessarily. We need our best on the pitch when we play top 4 rivals - if we can do that and get a result here and there, given they're all taking points off each other, I don't think the bar for 4th will be as high as it's usually been. We have this run where we play 3 of these rivals but all at home - Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U. The away fixtures are kinder now too - Wolves, Bournemouth, Everton. Grab around 13-14 points from this run and it's all healthy. Tonali was always going to take time. He's not the problem. The problem is having the likes of Anderson, Murphy and Lascelles getting so many minutes.
