because it was man city? honestly, there were many calls about how the 'big six' seemed to get preferential treatment from officials, VAR is simply making it far more obvious as when it suits they can rewind the action to look for any kind of offence to disallow a goal against any of them or move those damn lines a little while choosing at what point a pass actually became a pass (left the passers foot) to decide whether to allow/disallow a goal. 'he was a hairy toenail offside' is NOT a clear and obvious error.
think even lampard gave the ref an excuse, said he could not have had a clear view but why not refer it to the onfield ref once the 'evidence' was seen?
The way it should be! But the FA don’t have the balls to do this in the men’s game, it would mean they couldn’t say “different phase” when Trent handballs it but then give handball for an identical offence against a wolves or Brighton!
The best moment of any game is the split second the ball hits the back of the net, that's why we all go and it may only happen once in a game ... ... VAR is slowly killing that which goes against the entire essence of the game. I'd rather suffer the odd bad decision than stand there for ages and do a half hearted cheer when our goal is eventually allowed. Football is a game of opinions and sometimes VAR simply can't work out whether the degree of contact versus velocity is enough to call it a penalty. Get rid of it.
The trouble with VAR is not the technology but the idiots using it, it should only ever be used for putting clearly wrong decisions right and to stop all the blatant pulling diving and cheating. remember the world cup when they started using it at corners and giving penalties for the shirt pulling and cheating, that lead to an excellent world cup with some fantastic matches, it should be used to clean up the game and help referees to put mistakes right not to pour over every decision and do the refs job for them.
replied to give you a second **LIKE**. i always thought/hoped that VAR would lead to an end of cheating and get back to proper football, it has done the exact opposite with all this 'if there was contact, it is a foul', defenders now just turn away from an attacker then take a quick step back meaning the attacker has no option but to make contact, defender falls down and gets a free kick, they do not need skill now. the sudden 'WHOOOSH' of the goal going in and the complaints about the ref getting it wrong always have and always should be the main elements of the game.
I'd say stick to goal line technology and offsides. Penalty decisions are a nonsense as you cannot tell whether "contact" means "foul"
I would too but along with a rule change where the whole body must be offside. Clear daylight between defender and attacker would provide more goals and be easier to enforce
Aye maybe - if it's not obvious to the trained eye then maybe whatever the on field decision was should stand. This microscopic analysis of whether someone's toenail is offside goes against the very reason the offside law was brought in
Keep goal line tech, offsides and introduce a couple of challenges that each side can use - like cricket and American football.
Surely VAR was supposedly brought in to overturn any obvious mistakes the referee makes. It has done some but they took it too far, checking for any fouls/offsides before awarding a goal. Just keep it simple - goal line technology, obvious offsides rather than your toenail being offside and any blatant foul the referee has missed
