Fair point on the dead rubber.

What Sprints do is make winning a championship earlier more likely, which is madness in an ever expanding season.

Chances of a season going to the wire, absolute zilch.

Surely it's just about competition? i.e. if there are 2 or more drivers/teams close then it doesn't matter if there are more races/sprints?

If there is one driver/team way out in front then it's never going to be close no matter how few races/sprints there are.

What is mad is how Red Bull have managed to make such a versatile car that's over half a second faster than anything else and no one seems to be able to get close.

the points being 25 for a win and there being no clear 2nd place means it was never a close thing.

in theory if the ferrari has been a bit better spirits might have helped them. as it stands mclaren have at least gotten close so hopefully they can keep that up

True, but in a track where they're way stronger than the opposition, and the field behind is more competitive and a bit more random, a dominant team is almost guaranteed maximum points from both races where everything behind gets distributed at a different rate, so you're just adding the opportunity for dominance to accumulate the required points faster.

    Here's hoping.

What Macca have achieved this season is quite impressive. I don't think any of quite expected it.

Very impressive. They seem to have clicked with the new regs. Now they have a good handle on how to get the aero to work next years car should be epic.

I'm not getting that excited yet. Considering how early RBR were able to switch focus to 2024, we can expect them to come out in similar fashion.

    Hope I'm wrong.

I’m still really mixed on the sprints, yesterday’s was quite good because the mixed tyre strategy enlivened it, but we lost nearly half the race behind the safety car.

yeah there can be no safety cars in these. they need there own rules of red flag and grid restart for all incidents just to keep them lively affairs.

Scrap qualifying, grid the cars for a sprint race in reverse championship order, and use the results of that race to determine the grid for the main race.

I'd agree to scrap the sprint qualifying amd do what you say for the sprint grid reverse order or some such to force the top teams to really race.

but we can't have that as the long race (not main race btw) grid order.

poles are poles and part of f1.

FIA mandated a max of 18 laps on a set of tyres!!!!! Well that hampers any long running strats.

So at best first set to lap 18, second to lap 36, third to lap 54, fourth to the end!!!
So a minimum of 3 stops and no notice for the teams to save tyres for the race.

You’re fault Lewis, could have come wider around the corner to give George more room

Russell is always an accident waiting to happen.

he's a weaver and a red rag to a bull usually

they've managed to totally ruin the teams race and hand 2nd in constructors to ferrari
