On Tuesday, Stoke didn't return the ball back to us after an injury. Today, we did return the ball back to them after a non-injury (they clearly just wanted to make their three subs). And of course they go and score from there.
Didn't Rotherham throw it out to make a sub as well? There was no need for us to give the ball back if they choose to do that. We're far too nice sometimes.
You don’t get ten chances to win a game. You play it once and you need to win that game, not nine fictional games. It is not a computer game, where you just reboot. You get no points for style, just the score. Players get wrapped up in their own performance. I don’t care if the players are dreadful but win, not stylish and feeble.
True, but the Stoke thing was for an injury. Fair enough. Rotherham just wanted to make a sub. **** 'em if that's what they want to do.
In fairness though that's besides the point really, giving their keeper the ball can't be directly responsible for the goal. I know the situations weren't equitable but we can't moan about Stoke the other night and then moan we didn't do the same thing today. Should always give ball back imo. Was a fantastic goal as well to be fair. Knew it was in as soon as he hit it.
When is this other day? I’ve been hearing about this “another day” a lot for the last few years following saints. And it never seems to come.
My apologies, you’re right. But it does feel like a loss. Bazunu has been redeeming himself in the last two games but I don’t think he should have been lobbed from there. I maintain my opinion that he is a shocking keeper. Massive mistake not strengthening there IMO
That isn’t true. Second half was awful. Truly lack of effort and no urgency whatsoever. We were so much better than them we assumed it was a done deal and took our feet totally off the gas. That is not perfect effort and a million miles from perfect application.
I see that Martin is also saying we were wrong to return it (if they want to stop the game in order to make a triple sub, then fine - but the ball is then ours!).
This is how I saw the second half before they equalised. Some of you are deluded. It was a woeful second half. We have to learn to be ruthless. The turgid football we played second half gave them hope they could get something and they did.
