You think Seelt is a better bet than O/9 alongside Ballard yet Tony only plays Seelt at full back , I ask because I am unimpressed by Seelt from what I have seen of him so far, but again today was the perfect opportunity to play him there and move O/9 to full back and pack the midfield with bodies and catch them on the break as you say. I like Tony a lot but he has weak spots including game management imo.
Southampton have recovered from 5-0 hammering with 11 men ... ... we have a great squad, can't wait for the next game.
I think we probably all would've taken 4th after 11 games. Disappointing and frustrating game today but we go again in 2 weeks time. Plenty of ups and downs to go in this season.
I've not walked out of the ground feeling that low since the 4-0 defeat to Villa the day Poyet got sacked. I must add I wasn't feeling that low because I think we are awful but mainly as I was so shocked with the score and result. At half time I still thought we would win it. I thought the sub of Aouchiche for Burstow was the right thing to do and felt with Clarke Roberts and Ba we had enough to still hurt them on the break. The main tactical mistake in my opinion was 3 at the back with Clarke as a wing back. There right winger absolutley tortured him and he also wasn't able to get on the ball further up the field. I did leave at 3-0 in the 82nd minute hope this doesn't make me a bad fan but the game was done and I simply wasn't enjoying what I was watching.
Nah, I'm pretty sure he either has mental health issues or his mind just isn't what it used to be. He's made reference to games he attended back in the 60s so he's clearly getting on a bit, and there's a pattern in his posts of complete lack of understanding any nuance (if we win we're the best team in England, if we lose the world is ending). I think he's a passionate fan who just doesn't quite grasp the complexities of modern football
while i agree that officials need protecting and we all know that an 'outburst' from players tends to liven the crowd up...i honestly think being better at the job will do them more good although i was pleased to see that a clamp-down on dissent and time wasting was going to happen they have both turned into a 'if i feel like it, i will clamp down', it has been canny with a lot of the lesser challenges been ignored and the game being allowed to flow more. i think the 'dissent' came about due to several players surrounding the ref and or waving pretend cards in the air and we would all like to see that stamped out but for a lad to get a card for what was basically a shrug of the shoulders and saying 'it was a f*cking foul ref' while 20 yards away was simply a joke, if we then add up the constant fouls from certain players that were ignored then the officials are not going to get the respect they deserve and i actually hope they do get it, being a ref is a difficult job but when the lads use common sense (take a lad or lads to one side and give them fair warning, which we see from many refs or calling the captains in and advising them to have a word with the lads) they always seem to have a better game themselves which in turn makes the game better...players will not 'learn fron it' if the rules constantly change.
Total agree with you and if you haven't already seen it, I would watch the Under the Cosh episode with Mark Halsey. In it he gives his views on when he was refereeing. Like people have said on here previously - if you told a referee to **** off, he would give it back and use his common sense to referee games, something that Halsey reckons you can't do nowadays. It was quite interesting to hear it from a referee's point of view
In terms of the red at the time I thought the ref was booking Hume as he was in the process of giving the lino a gob full then was gobsmacked when I seen it was for Neil and obviously a second yellow. The ref was a twat for doing it but Neil also wasn't innocent. For 10 mins previously they must have fouled Clarke 5 or 6 times including blatant pull backs that weren't punished with yellows so can understand the frustration but you simply can't give the ref the chance to be a twat.
Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin' You know that I have from the start So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart "I'll be over at ten", you told me time and again But you're late, I wait around and then (bah-dah-dah) I went to the door, I can't take anymore It's not you, you let me down again (Hey, hey, hey!) If today sets the standard for dissent then every game is going to have at least 1 player sent off. Strange that persistent fouling isn't dealt with the same way
I'm sorry but I don't get how anyone can agree with that decision. He's nowhere near the ref when he's shouting, he's not being particularly aggressive either and it isn't excessive. It's an emotional game and the ref has to show a bit of common sense here. He's effectively changed the outcome of the game and given them 3 points. Unacceptable.
It was that clear that pretty much every around us was asking what the hell the yellow card was for. As I have just said, if that's the standard then not a chance in hell any game between joe and the end of the season goes without at least 5 yellow cards for "dissent"
I haven’t said I agree with the decision. But it doesn’t mean it’s not Neil’s fault for giving the ref the chance to do that. For all we know the ref said to him a minute earlier to stop moaning at him or he’s getting another booking (for example). We have absolutely no idea what he actually said, or what he had been saying in the minutes leading up to it. I certainly hope Neil isn’t off feeling sorry for himself otherwise it will happen again.
I'm just going by years of watching football and the incident itself. Refs should not be sending players off for this. let's live in the real world.
I'm starting to think referees need less protection, not more, to be honest. Nobody gets away with more in football than them.
They enjoy the attention. There is no reason for the referee to book Dan Neil today. Nobody saw anything, it was a run of mill bit of dissent that he could easily have brushed off. It's absolutely ****ing pathetic. Would a retrospective ban not be better rather than ruining a game of football because somebody got a wee bit angry and said a bad word. Do me a fuxking favour
My point is merely you’re saying “off for this”. We don’t know what “this” is. Only what Mowbray has said it is. If Neil has only done what Mowbray says, it’s a ridiculous decision. But I’d personally bet there’s way more to it.
