The Government should hold a referendum for funding Ukraine & paying to import invaders. Break it down to how much these things cost per household. Those that want to send money to Zelenskyy or sponsor some migrants by paying for their upkeep & letting them live in their homes should be allowed.
The answer my friend, is blowing in the bung, to paraphrase Dylan from the Magic Roundabout. The land bought at super premium prices under compulsory purchase is already being sold off to insiders - Tory donors, no doubt - at knockdown prices, and that sale started befure Wednesday. Always, but ALWAYS follow the money with the Tories. It always leads back to donors, families and mates. Welcome to the United Kingdom of Kleptopia.
It seems reasonable to say that illegal migrants can stay while their application is processed, as long as there is a sponsor willing to house and feed them. The 'funding' of Ukraine is misleading, as it tends to be logistical support, or off loading outdated equipment that's been kept mothballed because it's expensive to dispose of, and in return, there will be a lot of revenue from the reconstruction of Ukraine and access to the mineral rights.
So what's stopping Labour in 12 months time, restarting the project again, even annoucing now that they intend to do so, hence staving off any ideas of snapping up the land - I have the thoughts that Starmer is not interested, it's only Andy Burnham who appears to be doing the shouting? Genuine question btw, because I don't care with the project either way, it has no voting affect on me, whatever is decided.
We should hold a referendum on the trillions earmarked to fight the war on carbon too . Covid lockdowns destroyed the economy & people are struggling but there's always money to piss away on things most of us don't want. There's no such thing as Government money they steal it from us
I agree. Even if carbon reduction is the right approach, which is certainly open to debate, many of the schemes that have had massive investment simply cannot deliver. The technology hasn't worked anywhere it has been tried.
Let the free market & capitalism solve the problem, if there is a clean energy source that's cheaper than what we currently use the person will have me as a customer. Cutting cheques to China & India to bribe them to slow down with their polluting will not solve the problems. It's clearly not about the climate crisis It's just a scam to further control our lives & erode our freedoms aka Communism light
They keep claiming that EV's are lower cost than ICE, but seem to be spending a lot of cash and effort to push people toward them, which would simply not be needed if the claim was true.
I have a 3 year old smart phone & the battery life is ****ed already . Most of the early phones probably won't even charge. The same with anything that uses a lithium battery. You can buy a Model T Ford from the 1930s & put some petrol in & it still runs . Most people don't pay apple to replace the battery because it's not cost effective the same with a Tezla. Electric Vehicles are basically disposable
The second hand market in them is not exactly going to be a thriving market. Who'd be daft enough to buy one when even quite a fair percentage of the new ones are struggling? They can't really go for the low cost small car market, which would be more attractive because they need bigger cars to accommodate the batteries.
Have you seen the way EVs are built? The battery is laid down the center of the chasis then the body shell is placed on top and all the controls, seats etc added (or connected as some are in the shell before fitting). Forget the cost of replacement battery the labour cost in changing it alone would make it unwarrented. As you say, very expensive disposable cars (and where does the toxic battery waste go?)
That's on top of the cost of upgrading the power grid including generating plant to get sufficient power in the right places at the right time, which they are currently nowhere near capable of.
They are already building cars that give you a running total of carbon points expelled which will obviously be used to charge you by the mile like a taxi to drive your own car no matter what it's powered by
6 months of walking to work & vegan soy pizzas & you may have enough carbon credits to get on a diesel powered ferry to France for a week
